Spare Tire replacement fuel tank

I see that Titan has released effective Dec 1st a 30 gallon spare tire replacement fuel tank. A fine idea except if you remove your spare tire what do you do with it? I would rather have the spare tire than have 30 extra gallons of fuel....

If this was on a dually, I would just ditch the spare. Worst case is you lose a front tire and have to pull one of the rears to stick on the front.
On a single wheel you can bet I would be mounting the spare on the truck somewhere (front of bed, on a front hitch carrier, in the trailer, in the back seat).

In 600,000 miles I have never had need of a spare tire on a pickup. I would sell the spare and accept the slight risk of ever missing it.

It would need to be mounted forward, otherwise 5th wheel trlr would not clear it.

Many forest service ( at least out west) are setup with two spares vertically mounted next to the bed rails, and then a large fuel tank where the spare used to be. They often are on rough enough roads as to need another spare, and in remote enough areas as to need more fuel.
This setup is popular with the 4X4 crowd for the same reasons.
In fact buying a used forest service truck with this setup ios what some will look for.
Naturally, not everyone needs or wants it.

I made a vertical tire mount for the pickup bed of my old dually. On my current, flatbed dually, I mounted the spare vertically, to the headache rack.

titan offers a "vertical" mount for the spare tire, so ya can mount tire in the box. not sure where it mounts though.

You could mount in the bed but there again lies the idea of having to secure it since it will be easy prey.
