for $40 you'd be hard pressed to get decent manual wrench. Might be worth it for emergencies. at 230ft/lbs you may need to be careful not to overtorque. Didn't know that about the difference between chrome and black sockets. Still should probably use a calibrated torque wrench for final torque.

The lug nuts on a Ford E-series chassis are torqued to 140 foot-pounds. That's really not that much more than a normal car or truck. (My little Honda Fit specifies 80 or 90 foot-pounds, for instance.) It doesn't, or at least shouldn't, take a massive impact wrench or five foot breaker bar extension to get them off. I've never had difficulty doing it with the two foot Harbor Freight breaker bar alone (well, with the appropriate sockets and extensions).

A super C built on a heavier truck chassis would likely be a different matter, of course.

I have a lowly Harbor Fright 1/2" 120 VAC impact wrench and it'll do it. Paid $40. Extensions and connections reduce torque so when I say it'll do it, I mean with a 7/8" deep impact 1/2" drive socket. The right size on both ends with no extensions or adapters.

Home Depot has a RIGID 1/2" LiOn impact on sale at $150 that has a very good torque rating. Right now it's less expensive than their Ryobi with less torque. Lowes has a promising 1/2" LiOn impact.

Things I've learned, that could be useful here:

LiOn Impact doesn't work well with 2.0 aH battery, needs the 4.0 version. The RIGID ships with a 4.0 battery.

Impact Sockets MUST BE BLACK!!! And it's not the strength, although the black ones are more massive therefore a little stronger. It's the FINISH. A Black socket simply cracks. A Chrome socket can send sharp slivers of chrome at you.

How good are those electric impact wrenches? Are the strong enough to break loose the heavy dually nuts with a bit of corrosion on them? Looks like I will be getting that cargo trailer so I'll have the room for the spare and tools

I'll endure the weight of a mounted spare for our Class C. Heavy but right where I can still handle it. If it was 19.5" or bigger, not so sure.
I looked up AAA Road Service and they will "install an inflated serviceable spare" which makes it clear to me that at least AAA will not break down a flat, mount and inflate a tire for you.
I tried to find this out about GS and CoachNet. From Comments, I couldn't tell. What I did read, was BOTH have sent "road service" out without what they needed to change a flat. No JACK in one case.
So, My Story and I'm Stickin' To It: Carry Mounted, Inflated (meaning check it once in awhile!) Spare, and at least a Jack and a Wrench. I'm sure it "costs" a hundred pounds, but worth it to me.

I have a spare but at this time no jack as I have roadside and I am thinking it is better to at least have the spare for the small town or the late at night need for a new tire.

I also carry a 12V compressor to top up if it is a slow leak. I have been thinking of adding a can of stop leak as well just in case.

My issue is with my health, if I could take it slow I would be okay but if I had to rush on the side of a highway then it would be better to call someone.

if you are worried about the weight of the spare in the compartment, just carry a non mounted spare.
but it would be better to figure out some way of strapping down the tire.

I've been debating the same thing. Mine came with a spare, but the only place to put it is in one of the lower compartments, just lying there, not secured. Question is do I feel comfortable with out a spare on a 3500 mile road trip? The tires are new as of last summer, but that doesn't always help. Road side service is available if you can contact them. There are plenty of places I've been that I don't have cell service. If they do get there, do they have a new tire that you need for a price you don't feel like you've been taken advantage of. Sitting in my driveway I'd be reasonably comfortable changing the tire, They're actually slightly smaller than my E350 van tires. I've got a 10 ton bottle jack, 30" breaker bar and a 150in/lb torque wrench. At night in the rain on the side of the freeway, not so much. I've change 1 tire on my commuter car alongside a busy freeway. Not worth the risk or the anxiety. And grandpa joe's hardware feed and tire shop -- "sure I think we can find a tire that will fit" then charges you twice what it's worth for a used tire that only "fits" Did that once in northern california when I blew a tire on my TT. Still figuring out where to store it, but **** sure it's coming with us weather I change it myself or not.

I have changed a blow out on my dually's 2 times. An 8 ton bottle jack with
some cut lumber pieces works well for jacking and blocking. Have a large 4 way
lug wrench or pipe to extend the lug wrench. The tires are heavy, but your on your way in about an hour. I won't be without a spare. Even if you can't change
your own tire, at least you have with you everything that is needed.

I carry a mounted spare, Jack, Jack Stand, Lug Wrench. More than that, actually, but suffice it to say I want to be able to change a flat Myself, With Help, or Help a commercial service if they're missing a certain socket, etc. That way I have the flexibility.
