Spring has sprung. Advice for hibernation removal.

Gentlemen... I'm pretty excited. This will be the families first full season with our new (used) camper. I am going to be out removing the Lance 845 out of winter hibernation. I removed all the water in the plumbing system, and pumped antifreeze in (go figure: it was the warmest winter on record here) last fall. All went well there. The water heater plug was put into place and tightened down.

For this spring, once I pump the RV antifreeze out to you suggest a full flush? Does the waterheater refill as part of the normal water flow while flushing? I need to double check my deep cycle battery and see how it's doing. Any other spring prep suggestions?

Thanks! Gunna be a great camping season!
  • I hate this answer when someone says, try the search, but Jefe4x4 just provided an excellent very detailed response a couple pages ago. Search by typing: Getting camper ready for Spring Camping.
  • I sure do hope you didn't fill your water heater with antifreeze... please tell us you really just shut off the input valve, put the heater on bypass, and only filled the water lines.

Then tell us you really removed the water heater plug and drained the water from it as best you could. When I do mine in the fall I put a small plastic line in and siphon out as much of the remaining water in the tank too.

But if you really did fill your heater with antifreeze, it will take quite a few full fills, drive around to shake it up, then pull the plug out and flush, repeat several times, before you don't notice the taste in your hot water.

There is much to learn... and loads of good information in the Truck Camper University at the start of this forum.
