Starcraft Travel Star Galaxy reviews

Anyone have one of these units? I'm interested in the 309BHS, but may be too heavy GVW for the 1500 diesel I plan on purchasing. Since combining with Jayco a lot of their products seem to overlap somewhat, and the Galaxy line looks like a cross between a White Hawk Summit and Eagle, somewhere in the middle, as is the price. Our first rv was a Starcraft 27FB that the weather ate up.The new ones seem worlds better in quality and features for the money.

The only issue is actually finding one; Camping World is the only dealer within 50 miles, and their higher end stock is Jayco, though they can get the Starcraft fairly easily according to their sales staff.

Since I'm looking at over 30' I would also like to know how it tows. I'm a little nervous about pulling anything that long on the bumper, but positive reviews (and a good sway control hitch) will go a long way towards calming my nerves.

    Your going to pull a 30' + TT with a 1500 diesel? :H

I saw the first commercial for the ecodiesel and it was pulling a 25ft Airstream. Every sub par tow vehicle commercial goes with Airstream koolaid.
  • Have a 299BHU on order right now. Should be here very soon, I hope! We really purchased this one because of the floor plan. Since we are happy with our current Jayco, and warranty is now the same, I hope to have a similar experience with the Starcraft. Seems like the fit and finish was ok on the ones we looked at.
  • Bought our Travel Star used and had some trouble with it, but our dealer was really good with getting everything fixed up and all seems well now. I'd reccommend!
  • We have a 2013 Travel Star 294resa. Did not opt for the Galaxy package as ours came pretty loaded without. We love our trailer, fit and finish "appeared" much nicer than others we looked at. Have had a few warranty issues and Jayco has been outstanding to work with. That being said, they key with any rv is maintenance, maintenance, maintenance.

We tow with a 3/4 ton, so no issues there. We also have an Andersen hitch system which works great with our setup.

We are in Illinois and purchased from Greenlawn RV in Ohio, they claim to sell Starcrafts for the lowest price in the country, held true by thousands for us.
  • You're looking at a larger unit than what we bought but our Travel Star 207RB has been perfect! We are very happy with it.

And you might check with Tommy @ http://www.littlecampersdirect.com/. That's where we ordered ours. Good guy and a really great dealership in MS. It was a 500 mile drive for us to pick it up but we saved thousands. In fact, their prices are low enough that you'll be suspicious. But, honestly, they are for real! Not only no haggling low prices but no fees of any kind when you take delivery!
  • With just the three of us and a few supplies in the back of the truck, I get within 900# of my GVWR with the trailer attached. It's amazing how fast it all adds up and your going to be blowing by your max payload with that combination.
Your present 3500 is twice the truck that little diesel is and I think your going to kick yourself for going backwards.

I think the RAM 1500 diesel is all about fuel mileage and not about capability.
  • The 1500 Ram ecodiesel will have less payload than the gas model, which already has a relatively low payload. I think you'll max out the payload very quickly.
