Still one or two Conventional TC Makers left in Australia

Not all manufacturers are just making up market Caravans. Millard Caravans established in the 1950's and a builder of traditional Caravans, still offers their "Slideon'

  • G'day Robert,

Millard have allways been an iconic Travel Trailer/Caravan brand in Australia, maybe over 40 years. My parents had a Millard Caravan when I was a teenager, now i'm 58. It was a great mid sized van that my wife & I used a few times with four small babes, long ago. I'm sitt'n next to one watching Top Gear USA and he's now 26. We had great times camping across Australia.

Australian Manufacturers are very good, for our market and what the buyers want here.

Wednesday I pick up my new 2013 Eagle Cap 1160 Truck Camper from the Port of Fremantle

My wife & I want a sofa, so here it is.

Then in the next two weeks, the adventure trailer, to hold the Yamaha trail bike, Honda Quad, Finn 3m Spindrift & other goodies'

    Allways liked your posts Robert.

Weekend away, end of the month, coming up, will trial new 1160 and see if there are any teething issues.

Then Christmas Dinner away with Bi Tone Westcoast Caravan Club, mid December.

Then, leaving from Perth to Kalbarri, Coral Bay, Kalbarri, Western Australia, leave Boxing Day, return two weeks later.

    Let's Go Aussie Adventures!
  • sheriff doug that unit looks sweet. do all of the truck campers in Australia go on a flat bed truck or do any go on standard pickups, assuming you use standard pickups there?
    bumpy
  • Very interesting pop top on that Millard also very nice on the interior
  • This is the reason I have an American 1 tonne pickup, most Australian TC's are quite small, to fit on smaller 1/2 ton Japanese/korean/Thailand built, tray top utilities.

Large Pickups as you ask, are pretty rare, most here who want something larger than our smaller pickups go for Izusu, Hino or similar medium sized Truck, as new American pickups here are in excess of $120,000.00 after shipping from US and right hand drive conversion, to meet Australian compliance.

I needed a larger dual rear wheel US pickup, with a large diesel, to carry the 2 tonnes plus that new camper, with water, personal items, food & fuel, will weigh.

Our total population is now 23 million, across Australia, which 80% live on the Eastern seaboard.
Australian Slide-On Campers are very good, most hand made, in small family owned companies.

Most Australia love Tent Camping, Travel Trailers & Motorhomes as it is much safer here, no bears, no guns, just a few snakes & spiders. Just need to be careful.

Com'on Down, We are very friendly, Australia has very wide open spaces & great cities as well as, Kangaroos, Koalas, Bunble Bungles, Ayers Rock, Great Barrier Reek, Kakadu, Ord River, The Ghana Railway, drain tree RainForrwst, Blue Mountains, Sailing on Lake Eyre, Wilpena Pound, Sydney Harbour & Opera House, Kangaroo Island, The Apostles, Rottnest Island, Tasmania, etc.
Look up some of these places, amazing, just like the US, but far less people.

Enjoy, the outdoors, where ever you are! Doug

As Sheriffdoug said the smaller and even the US Pickups are converted to flatbeds for larger local units.
Their is about 100 Caravan manufacturers alone, not RV manufacturers and total RV manufacturers could easily run into the several hundreds, making Motorhomes,Campertrailers, 5th wheelers and Crossover type Caravans..These you will not see being sold in the US and are basically unique to here.
    Off Road Caravan

Class C Motorhome, conventional not Off Road.

Crossover Caravan. This one was bought by a US resident.
