We had our TT parked at a friends barn, 2 hrs away, where my husband was using it as a "home base" for an out of town job he was working on. He came home for 2 weeks and when he went back, the camper appeared to have been slightly "tisted/shifted" from its original position. They had had a bad storm with straight line winds. The jacks were out of placement and in the mud. He and my dad were trying to get it repositioned and the jacks back on their "pads". When they cranked the tongue jack, it broke and the tongue crashed down. They used a car jack to get the camper set back up and realigned and everything seems to be ok and working fine. Except now of course, we need to replace the tongue jack. As I am searching online for a jack, I am overwhelmed by all the pictures, none of which look like ours. How do I know what I need? I dont see anything that tells me a type or size. I have a 2006 Keystone Hornet 27B

There are a few RV salvage yards around where you might find a used tongue jack cheaper. You might want to get the old one for comparison...if you can.

I meant "twisted", not "tisted". Also, do any of you have websites or places that you like to get parts at? I've looked on ebay, craigslist, & etrailor.com. I am getting ready to call Camping World and a rv salvage dealer that I've dealt with. Thats all the places I can think to look. However, I dont feel that I even know what to tell them I looking for yet, mainly because I dont know what size jack I need. 4 ton? 6 ton? WOuld u buy new or is used ok?

Here is all I know: its a side crank, triangle plate, 3 bolts. Its says the camper weighs 5200lbs with a carrying capacity of 2400lbs, the camper is 28' long. The specs said something like tongue:660, but I dont know what that means.

All the jacks fit a standard hole in the trailer. Just go to any RV dealer and pick one up, or even on line they all will fit the standard hole and the bolts will line up. It is an easy replacement job.

Sounds like a manual crank tongue jack. time to upgrade to a power tongue jack! anything with a 5000lb lifting capacity. manual or power.

That is the diameter of the holes. If you have a 2" hole and a 2.5" jack shaft, it is not hard to file or grind out the hole to fit.

This has a handy electric comparison chart that I printed out. sorry i dont know how to do a link :( So it looks like I need to know if I have a 2" or 2 1/4" hole. IS that the measurement between the holes?

So you are saying I could get a good electric jack then when I sell the camper, keep the good jack to use on my next camper? I guess if I bought another camper before I sell this one, that would work because I could swap the jacks. But if I sell this camper first, then I'd still have to come up with a jack to put on it if I wanna keep the electric one........I'm gonna check out the price on those Barker jacks and see what the average cost is for a "good" jack.

Get an barker or Atwood brand power jack. They are more expensive, but last much longer. You don't want a tounge jack failure.

Head back to ebay for an electric tongue jack. We just bought our second 3500# one for just about $117.....the first one several years ago was $100. They also have beefier ones, but the 3500 was plenty sufficient for us. Have never had a problem with the first one and haven't taken our new TT out yet, but don't anticipate any. They are very easy to install....basic tools. No you do not need shore power...works off the battery. I wouldn't even think of replacing with a manual jack....too much work and too good a price to pass. There are several sellers, so just take some time to read through.

I dont want to spend too much for a really good electric jack because we are planning on selling this TT and getting a smaller one. But I dont want a piece of junk jack to pass along to the next owner, just a decent usable jack.

For that price I would give it a shot, especially as you are not planning on keeping the trailer long term. Who knows, it might be a really winner! :)

We have taken the electric jack off each of the last 3 trailers that we purchased/sold!

If you are going to keep camping, it is something to consider!

Use this as an opportunity to get an electric tongue jack. I have owned several Barkers, and they are worth the investment.
