Suburban Furnace fuse keeps blowing

Hello Everyone,

I have been in hiatus for a long while (4HPYCMPRS) due to life ! ! !

Anyway, I have a 2012 Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite 8312SS. I currently have it sold and the purchaser wants to pick it up this weekend. I am just clearing out my gear and testing everything to find that when I switch the thermostat to "heat" the 15amp fuse blows immediately. I've tried several fuses and same result. I don't want to sell it with something not working or broken. I told him everything works..... just my luck..... I was wrong.

Some info:
I am plugged into shore power (30amp) at my house. Never had an issue with the furnace previously and I use and "exercise" the furnace regularly. The thermostat is factory. Battery is new and charged. I've shut off the fridge completely and tried installing fuse (still blows). I also removed the grille to gain access to the furnace and unplugged the 4 wire (I think it's 4 wire) connector. I reinstalled the fuse and switched the thermostat to heat - the fuse did not blow. The moment I plugged it back in, it blew again. So, I've come to the conclusion it is the furnace itself or a component thereof (I think). The fan (squirrel cage) moves freely and I've had insect screens installed on the intake and exhaust since new. I have tried to remove the furnace, having disconnected the propane line, wiring connector and screws securing it to the floor - it will not slide out - if feels like it's attached to the intake/exhaust plate. I don't want to force it....

So, if I could get some insight on this or do I leave it for an RV tech? I could lower the price tell the purchaser to get it looked at.

Any help is appreciated,

Cheers......
  • My take is since you say the fuses blow immediately you have a short somewhere in or feeding the furnace. Check the wires providing power to the furnace for abrasions or bare wires coming in contact with screws or other metal parts.
  • Because it didn’t blow with the furnace disconnected, and blows immediately when you plug back in, I suspect the wiring in the furnace from the plug to the circuit breaker on the furnace-
  • Thank you all for taking the time to reply.

Does anyone know how to remove the furnace, then I could have a better look. It feels like it's fastened to the wall of the trailer.
