Suggestions for a new(er) larger TT

I apologize in advance for the long post.

I bought my first TT in Feb 2013. It is a 2007 Aerolite 718fd. Based on all the problems I have read about here I was very lucky and got a well maintained and apparently well built unit. My GF and I have made good use of the TT spending a month or so in Fl Keys and in between NC and there last year and again this year. Planning another month this Dec in John Pennecamp and Bahia Honda.

This website has been very helpful to us in planning and improving our TT. I keep reading " sooner or later you will want a bigger unit ". We have toyed with the idea of a longer cross country trip and it has got me thinking a little bigger TT would be nice. This is what we have now.

We converted the dining area to a permanent Queen size bed with a S&B type mattress. Sofa folds out to a " bed " and there is a bunk over the double bed, which we use for storage. We have always camped alone, except one night we had my GF's son / girlfriend and 2 yr old over. Went pretty well but luckily it was not cold or raining :)

We have no desire for an A, B, or C MH or a fifth wheel, or even a large TT. Can afford one but don't want the complications that come with a bigger unit. We would like 1: A bed that can be accessed from the sides w/o crawling over one another in the middle of the night 2: a bigger, more functional Bath 3: Replace the non functional sofa area with a small dining area.

The Aerolite weighs about 4100 lbs loaded to camp ( 3100 empty ), 350 tongue weight ( a little more with the new bike rack over the tanks ). We tow with a 2013 F150 Eco. I think the payload is about 1400. It tows and the TT pulls great.

Would like to stay as close as possible to current weight figures and " add " the new features. Also, we will be adding kayaks to our trip this year ( little more weight ). Have seen a lot of ultralights out there. Do not want a hybrid.

1- is there anything out there that will meet our needs / wants /weight requirements?
If so, specific model suggestions please...

2- Who makes the best made Ultralight TT?

3-suggestions on where to look?

Thanks for reading
  • One more: LivinLite Camplite 16tbs

Don't be fooled: this one has twin beds, but they convert easily to a king size bed! It's not a walk around, but you don't have to crawl over each other to get out either. The 2 person dinette is on a small slide.

These are pricey, b/c they don't have any wood in them to rot, and they're super light.
  • Not sure where in NC you are, and if you are not in a hurry, I would begin by looking here RV show
  • All the above are good options. And I was...still am in the same boat you are and currently own a TT with what I think is what you describe. Look into the Gulfstream Vista (previous years called Visa) line up, and look at the 23' options with walk around queens.

I call our Visa 23BHD a small hotel room on wheels, as we are a highly mobile family. We pull our hotel room everywhere, and rarely spend any portion of the day in it. Its there for evening use and sleeping, with all the amenities of home but with less space and very light weight. Our 23BHD weighs 4100lbs fully loaded for a long trip, and 4300lbs with 4 bikes and a bike rake. (2 inside and 2 in the back)
  • Best bet is to go to a large RV show and compare the actual rigs. Everybody has their own opinion on what constitutes "large".
  • Check out the Jayco Jayflight 23RB. We had a similar one (they used to be the 21FB) and loved it. We traveled cross country in it for weeks. Handles well, has a two year warranty, and a huge fresh water tank. The 'separated' bedroom allows for a little more space when needed.
  • Thanks for all the info. This will give me a place to start. Luckily we are not in a hurry. We have the Aerolite set up the way we want now, new tires, bike rack, wheels packed etc. etc. . I like the idea of going to as many RV shows as we can. May have to get some blinders for my GF :)

dahkota: I like that Jayflight 23rb. Actually there is a good deal on a almost new one close by but unfortunately it is a 23mb ( murphy bed ) not the plan you referred to.

    thanks to all
