Suncoast Torque Converters

Hey Gang,

I just recently ordered a Suncoast Torque Converter for my Jeep, since mine is showing signs of letting go, which is common with the Jeep Diesels from 05 and 06. Jeep put a week converter in, and their "fix" for shuddering under load was to derate the engine while the converter is locked up. I never went for a fix, and actually have a tune in her to give full engine torque while the converter is locked up, which probably made it fail sooner. She has 123k on her now.

Has anyone have any experience with Suncoast? I hear good things about them. My diesel mechanic told me to go with the Billet converter over the 'updated' stock. And, he usually tries to find ways to save me money.

I hope to get one more year out of the Jeep as a TV before upgrading to something next year. Then the Jeep will be just for commuting.

Let me hear what you have to say about Suncoast of Billet converters in general.

I have not talked to the shop personnel since Oct. They were going to send it back to Suncoast and also try to recoup some of the cost of the whole deal. It had to part of a stator or pump vane.

  • I had one put in in Sept. and 2060 miles later,1400 miles from home, 25 miles out of Glendive,Mt. it shed parts taking out the seal and front pump. That was the second one the shop that put it in had go bad in just a few months. The first was the shop owner personal truck and it never got out of the shop. My truck does not have a Suncoast in it now. JME for what it is worth.
  • Yes, Suncoast has a good rep! Billet vs updated stock at that power level??? I just freshen up my Dodge/Ram/Cummins. I ran a custom DTT single disc non billet TC for 85K, with 325/650 at the rear wheels. The standard case still looked ok.

New TC is triple disc billet.

If you are only keeping it another year, then weigh the cost difference!
