Hi all, My first post here. I just bought a 2016 Jayco 29RSK and towed it 8 hrs home. On the big picture window the glass has a quarter size dent in, causing the glass to have a swirling effect at that spot. I can only assume its from a rock, except that side of the trailer was not facing the traffic side. Does tempered glass really dent? Could this be a defect in the glass I should get them to switch out under warranty? Or is it something I dont even really need to worry about?

Probably was a second-quality piece from the glass factory. Does it look like something has hit it, or is the mark in the glass itself. Normally glass will not dent from being hit, but will crack or even shatter. Is it actually glass, or some type of plastic material??

My guess would be that it chipped out when something hit it. Go to a windshield repair place and have them put some of their epoxy in it.

Isn't tempered glass designed to break into a bazillion pieces when it is impacted?I've never heard of glass denting.Could it have been a flaw from the factory that was missed on your inspection?

Tempered glass doesn't dent, it shatters into little pebbles. If it deforms without breaking, it springs back to its original shape. The tempering part just makes the edges less sharp. This is likely a factory defect.Even if you do decide to epoxy it, it could shatter while you are driving down the road. Get it replaced under warranty ASAP.

There is the tiniest speck in the middle of the dent that you feel should scratch off but it doesn't, a speck the size of a grain of salt small. I feel like there is nothing to epoxy. Its not like a crack on a windshield. My dealer wants pictures to try for warranty but I cant get a pic that shows this. I know hes going to say its from a rock which is why I'm asking if this glass would actually dent.

Why mess around, assume it was a factory defects and ask them to send a replacement etc.

I would not let the dealer replace it unless you have the utmost confidence in the technician. You'll have potential leak problem forever.

It's a brand new trailer. Go for the warranty. Too bad the dealer's 8 hours away.

Sounds like a defect from manufacturing. As stated above tempered glass doesn't really chip. The glass is manufactured with very high internal stresses. The smallest of fractures causes the stress to release instantly which is why the glass shatters into hundreds of rounded pieces. The higher the stress, the smaller the pieces. It's possible that something came into contact with the surface of the glass while the glass was traveling through the oven which left the imperfection. I'd have the dealer swap the window or live with it if it's not that bad.

If it is truly a tempered glass it won't dent. The glass is designed to fracture into a 1000 little pieces so you don't get cut in half!! Obviously it was manufactured with the defect. When they temper glass it is heated to extreme heat thus making it tempered. It was probably a defect in the glass when heated and it got worse. I have seen it before in side glass in automobiles. They should have no problem replacing the glass if they know what they are looking at!! Also there should be a tempered emblem in the lower corner of the glass. Good luck ,Bill

Tempered glass does not dent.

Photo tip from a pro photographer: shoot glass from side opposite the light. Inside looking out in sunshine or outside looking in at night with interior lights on. Angle of light falling on glass will determine how the "dent" looks to camera.
