VW Touareg with a 4.0L V8 diesel engine producing 416hp/664lb-ft with the ability to tow a little over 7,700 lbs. I wish Ford, GM, or Ram slapped this engine in their half tons instead of a small 3.0...

Actually it is not. VW seems to be building everything.: Petrol, LPG, Electric and Diesel

They do but they are concentrating on electrics. Audi and Porsche have dropped out of LeMans prototype racing after dominating it for decades and are only supporting production based race cars and Formula E.
They are committing 80B Euros 91B USD to electrics and plan to stop developing diesels by 2026.
Risky maybe but that's the plan.
