Things I'm starting to notice / hate about camping In a TT

I'm relatively new to camping In a travel trailer , we go about twice a month, and I'm starting to notice things that just drive me insane, and why the companies keep doing it because idiots keeping buying / accepting it.

Travel trailers are made poorly, when you go to service them , dealers are idiots, and just break more than they fix?!?

Extended warranties / service plans don't exist , one exists from multiple companies , but they are the exact same things , all of them. They all exclude the same things., and all include the same things, like literally identical. They wouldn't be this way if so many people purchased them, they don't cover anything really, other than **** that's sub 1k, what's the point ?

Rv campgrounds are almost ALWAYS , geared towards perminat living. Their are some exceptions, but its hit or miss. We've booked 6 stats at various non state ran parks , and each of them were flooded with 10 year old campers that have decks perminately attached, its tacky, they are basically just trailer parks, any way to weed these out ? We found one that had a pool, fishing, beautiful location, we arrived and it is 90% full of year rounders. People had stuff like basketball goals in the street , cars parked on the side of the road, getting into our spot was **** near impossible. Once you get in they have rules like no camp fires , no swimming on mondays and wed and thurs , etc. every one and their mom just drives around on a golf cart , they really don't go anywhere , they just drive around aimlessly, is this where the old go to die ?

I've also noticed parks don't really give much attention to three or four night stayers , they are all too worried about the full timers. We were told to stop cooking diner after dark if we're going to grill because it made to much noise for the neighbor, one of which that had a perminately attached building , multiple golf carts and likely lived here, we were cooking at 8 ๐Ÿ˜•

I'm just getting unlucky right ? The camping world isn't filled with people that just park an ugly trailer at a trailer park and live to die? Right ?

The interesting thing about camping or rather rv-ing. There's as many definitions as there are people doing it.

Some folks enjoy the community of a high density RV Resort, driving around with the golf cart, getting together for pickleball Tuesday nights, the Sunday afternoon pot-luck. Nothing wrong with that at all, just not my groove.

The opposite end is the folks with a rig that can crawl down a near impassable trail so they can spend their time in solitude under the stars, the closest neighbor dozens of miles away. I dream of having an expedition / overland setup but haven't made it a reality.

The few private parks I've stayed in (Alaska and Canada), my neighbors both long term and transient were very friendly and a lot more social than folks I meet at government parks.

Every park is different. The people are different. One should never judge by appearance alone. I started camping/RVing in the 70s, the people have not changed basically. Most are friendly, outgoing and interesting. I would not give up any of the experiences I have had over the years(even the bad ones).

sounds like you have a low tollerance for people and dogs.

PS if you ever camp beside me.....make sure to keep your kids quiet.

Of course not , my preference is to avoid them, I was doing something wrong , I asked how to fix it, I got an answer. I'll just stay away from private parks.

I don't want solitude , I want to be able to let the kids play in front of the trailer without mud and one tree between me and the person next to me. Of course the rogue golf cart scares me as well. It's merely preference, nothing wrong with what those people do. 8 find it trashy and intolerable, but that's not an insult.

P.s if your "camping" and the sound of children bothers you, then you should build an enclosed patio at your seasonal campsite and become a Scrooge like the rest of the intolerable people that define camping as living in a perminant spot.

I like your perspective.

The raw and matter-of-fact, deep-down-to-the-bone realities of RVing.

Most of these responders seem like their lives revolve around camping or a more euphemistic term RVing.

Recreation? ...yeah right.

When you see someone hugging a six-pack, traipsing between your kids and their parked bikes you'd wonder what you got yourself into. This is not recreation.

I love going on a trip and enjoy the scenery every once in a while as a respite from city life, but I still (more than anything else) long for the comfort of S&B accommodation.

For what it is worth. . . if I were in your situation I'd make sure to stay away from these six-pack hugging bloodshot boogeymen specially with your two young kids.

I'm not saying RV PARKS are the enclaves of these boogeymen, but these are their favorite sanctuary or maybe if they are out on a lam. Sorta "what you see in RV Camp stays in RV Camp."

Enjoy your camping and keep an eye on the kids.

So let me get this right...you are basically inferring that anyone who buys a sixpack of beer and walks back to their camper and has to run a gauntlet of your kids in the middle of the road is now to be suspect as a child abuser? Get Real.

An extension of your logic would then imply "Don't take your kids to TGI Fridays because they serve beer and there are men at the bar.

This is ludicrous and frankly unwarranted. Spreading this kind of fear and prejudice doesn't help anyone.

Some of you folks are either not doing your research or you live in areas where all the private CGs are dumps. I recall that being the case 30 years ago but in the last 10 years or so we have found plenty of well managed, rustic private CGs that were only a small step down from staying in a state park. Yes some of these have a large seasonal population but campers like us non-the-less. And the management of these places requires well maintained units.

Again, the Internet is your friend. Do your research and you will find what you are looking for.

As far as the quality of units sold today, if we could buy reliable trouble free units, most of us simply could not afford them. We're on our 3rd Jayco we purchased new since '93. Fit and finish issues but overall solid construction and only very minor issues.

We've had out third Jayco for a year now and no new car bugs or problems with fit or finish. But I agree. They're all thrown together like a bird's nest.

I was just in Galveston last weekend, you sound like where i was , they had live music, across the sea wall and everyone and their mom had 100 dogs that barked none stop lol.

... I don't know what that is, but its not camping. I have two small children, we like to fish, swim , roast mashmelloes, etc. when I take the kids camping and can't do any of those things because some old sob wants to live in filth seems silly. I will indeed stay away from private parks moving forward...

I have experienced the situation you describe and agree that it is not something I prefer. However, from my experiences, I don't feel you need to stay away from all private RV parks as we have stayed at many very nice, quiet and beautiful private parks. It might be from your limited experience that you've just been unlucky so far. You've been provided with some good info on just doing your homework before making those reservations.

Don't get frustrated with what you've experienced so far as spending time with your young family is what is most important. I recall family camping trips (non-RV but tent style car camping) were some of the best and most memorable times from my childhood. That was motivation enough to try and provide the same family togetherness for my family. With a little time under your belt, you will get it figured out on where to go to make it an even better experience.

I'm even waiting patiently for a solar kit to arrive for more independence from electric hook-ups and that could be a consideration for you as well. As far as the quality of RVs piece, and you did say it wasn't that big a deal, get to know your trailer and how to fix the small or even large items. Look into the ability to customize the trailer to your desire by implementing a lot of the modifications you'll see posted here and on other web sites. It can actually be quite fun to do mods on your trailer too.

Most importantly, just remember to enjoy your time away with your family.

I ran into this a bit when we lived in California too. State/Fed CG's were booked up our 1st year so we stayed at several private CGs with lots of trashy permanent RVs, after a few times I would call and ask how many permanent RVs were there and if the recreational campers and permanent were mixed together or not.

We started our retirement in 2007 by full timing in a 40 foot diesel coach. After 4 years on the road what we found was that most of the campgrounds were places that we did like to stay in either, they were way too crowded and noisy, too many rules and restrictions, filled with unfriendly and rude people etc. We ended buying a nice rural piece of property, where I have virtually no neighbors, my dogs can run free, I can have all the bonfires I like, I can shoot my guns in my backyard, etc. etc. Got rid of that 40 foot coach and bought a F250 diesel, a 30 foot toy hauling trailer and a Harley Electra Glide for the few times I do venture out.

You are not near campers, you are staying in RV parks. And not high class RV parks.

We drove thru some and knew they were not for us.

Try RV Park Reviews. they have very good reviews most of which will alert you to seasonal type campgrounds.

I`ve never found myself in a campground that had 90% seasonal. do some research and see if it is a true campground or just a fulltime trailer park, under a resort name.

Agree with most of the others. I'm not a fan of private campgrounds for all the reasons you mentioned. I was raised going to state parks and i like them the best. Good luck
