Thinking of getting my fist cab over camper

I have a F350 king cab long bed power stroke.

I’m looking for something used, clean, simple and doesn’t over power the truck but I don’t like pop ups. It’s just for one person that wants to take off on a moments notice or no notice at all. We have camped all our lives with the family, now that everyone is grown up and gone I would like to enjoy some more camping and to keep it simple. I figure with a camper I could get to places I’ve never seen before in the 5th wheel. Yes, I am accustomed to creature comforts, not bear bones, been there and done that. lol
  • Dealers that sell used truck campers are a great place to start, at least so you can look at various makes and models and see the various layouts and what not.
  • If there is no 'we' in equation, get the smallest hardside you can find with small tanks and no air conditioning. Widen you search to include the greater L.A. area and even up into the San Joaquin to get the widest market. Even with a 'we' our little Lance Lite (1842 pounds, wet) has worked out very well. Well enough to consider a four month tour clockwise around the international boundary U.S. States in the fall. (Sept. 1st to New Years Day)
We have camped and travelled over 200 days/nights in the box. If i were in your shoes, a small hard side with the all-season package and no air conditioning looks good. Just a caution: a small hard side TC automatically invites you, personally to get out there and enjoy your days and nights, because you can at a moment's notice.
Here is your invitation: This was a few days ago in Idaho:

What to look for while shopping TC's is a whole 'nother story.

    regards, as always, jefe
  • We had a Lance 835 on a SRW F350 and it was really good with nice clearance all the way around and truck didn’t really know it was back there. I think the biggest thing that made it so appealing was that if you removed the jacks the fact that there was no overhang and the camper was so narrow that I could climb along those narrow canyon wall roads with minimal worry, pretty much anywhere a truck could go you could take this camper (overhead clearance excepted). Good balance for off road and beach driving. Weight on front and rear axle were within 100 lbs of each other. We moved up to a larger slide and a DRW but we tow a Wrangler for going off road now.
  • I have an alpenlite cimarron LX 850 that fits my f350 great and I hardly notice it is there for power. Torklift stable loads and firestone airbags make the body roll very manageable. It goes a lot of places it probably shouldn't
  • Look for a Lance 815 last made in 2008 or 2009. Fits a long bed with optional storage pods removed.
  • I miss mine. Have had two Lance TC's. The space in the TT is nice, but not as convenient for spur of the moment trips.

You truck will handle a TC just fine, good luck with it.
