Thoughts on this Truck

That's a nice truck at a good price.

Looks clean, and also looks like they took off the bigger more expensive rims. But if it does what you need it to do go for it!

So the ad says one owner on car Gurus, but the Carfax says it has had 4 owners. The first 2 were commercial in Quebec and tallied up all the mileage. The 3rd owner was a consumer in Quebec - or some kind of auction dealer, and then a dealer here in VA - I assume traded at auction from Canada to Va. Is that something to be concerned about?

Very nice, these trucks are not easy to find. I needed a long box for the truck camper, and SRW long boxes are even less common.

I found my Ram over in NJ, one owner, dealer serviced, 81K miles, here is the original window sticker, I paid $37k.

I was running a nationwide search for about a month, seems like you have to jump on these deals when you find a decent one. The Ram dealer I bought it from was telling me he had to spend his PPP money, so he was moving his used inventory at no profit just so he could keep his sales and prep staff busy, even though the showroom was closed and by appt only.

I went to the "build and price" on the Ram site and this exact truck in a 2020 would sticker at $68k. I think used inventory is going to continue to be tight given the cost fo new trucks.

Read an article about this not long ago, because of the very favorable exchange rate, wholesale buyers in the US buy vehciles in Canada and export them to the US. Even with the costs of exporting and converting the odometer and speedometer to miles from kilometers, it is profitable.

That is not a vehicle I would buy. I prefer to purchase a factory certified (not some hokey dealer certification) with the extended factory warranty the certified vehicle provides.

My advice, if you want a Ford, only look at vehicles for sale by Ford dealers. That generally means they come in on trade, and any vehicle that is not clean enough, too many miles, etc., is sent to auction.

4 owners is not a problem per se as long as maintenance was done. I would be concerned about salt/rust coming from Canada, in a perfect world we would only buy used cars from Arizona...

My other question is about Canadian titles. I know there are states in the US that don't have a salvage designation (leading to "title washing"), and if CarFax has as much info in CVanada as it does in the US it shouldn't be an issue.

Any invintory is going to be tough for a while, lots had to close the factory's due to the coronavirus, so once there gone you will have to wait untill they build new ones. So , im not trading in untill mine is built type of thing.

Thanks for the input and I hear you. That said, certified used vehicles cost a LOT more.

Based on the pictures I think it would be worth your time to take a closer look in person.

The majority of used vehicles in Canada end up going to the states, especially trucks. I constantly have dealers hounding me for my trade.

A commercial registration in Quebec is probably a rental or lease company. Could be good or bad but most aren’t treated well. That might be what the price reflects. The other 2 registrants would probably be an auction house and then the US dealer that bought it.

Also be careful with vehicles from Quebec. Their reporting rules are different and a lot of things don’t show on Carfax reports. I believe Canadian vehicles won’t have oem warranty coverage from US dealers either, at least that’s how it is here.
