Time for a new truck

My opinion:

Either a Crew Cab "Chevy or Ford", one ton, SRW, diesel.

Why buy a 3/4 ton when you can get a one ton that's the same size (only stronger) for a few more dollars.

If you can afford a Diesel, do it, best for hauling and pulling.

Only option you will want to add is Torklift Stable Loads.

Go shopping. Go to the big three and test drive a 3500/350 srw with both a gas and diesel engine. You are going to get so many opinions on this that you will just be back to square one once you sort them all out. You just need to go out and find the combination you like.

If you get a diesel, get a used one that doesn't have urea injection

It's unclear if you want a new truck or new to you truck. In the older than 2008 trucks, the only viable SRW choice is a Ford if you want the highest payload. Unless there is some reason you need a diesel, I'd go with a gasoline model '05-'07. I can't tell if you plan to go over mountains much or not. If not, a gasoline powered truck should be plenty.

If you are truly wanting a "new" truck or newer than '07, you have a lot more options. I would make sure the width of your camper will clear the bed of the GM models though. I prefer Ford trucks, so that's what I'd buy. Ram and GM newer trucks are ok, but I just don't like their looks internal and external and have no reason to move away from Ford.

As far as 6.0 PSD is concerned. They haven't made them for a long time. All of the issues are well known, and the models that had the most issues were '03-'04 which were built over 10 years ago. For the other choices in the timeframe, you can expect issues as well both by design and age. Injectors can go out on any diesel, so if you are going for an old diesel, I don't see one as being that much better than the other. All of the newer model diesels seem to be doing quite well from all I've read.

I do not like GM's truck bed supports In the rear if the bed. These require that you "lift" the tc by thick rubber mat , plywood or some other way. I like the GM trucks themselves but personally won't buy a GM truck until that design is changed. I chose between Ram or Ford for that reason, others seem to deal with it fine.

Kinda sorta related... why are duallys "difficult" on the beach? I thought they'd be better than singles, because you wouldn't have to "down air" the rear tires - at least, I thought you don't have to down air the rear tires.

We used to go to the beaches in Rhode Island for minor 4 wheeling with my 1988 F150 and beer steamed crabs from the bay. And girls in bikinis. Ah, memories...

Diesel!.

I love my two Duramax trucks. I'd be hard pressed to ever buy a gas truck again.

My thoughts: hauling a 2000lb brick in the truck bed, combined with towing is where a diesel is beneficial.

Any of the three trucks will treat you right. I'm a Ford guy, but I'd also consider a new GM.

If you're going to be hauling the TC while towing the Jeep, get a diesel. Don't even consider a gas V8 for hauling duty.

I'm a Toyota guy. So I had no allegiance. After a lot of research I ended up with a 2015 3500 Silverado, SRW 4WD crew, long bed. Payload just under 4000lbs. My camper does not come close to that, 2700 loaded, but I like the extra capacity. I trade every 5-6 years, don't put on a lot of miles, don't want to listen to a diesel, don't want to maneuver a dually on some of the logging roads I travel in BC and Alaska.
