I just bought my first dually. It is a 2013 GMC 3500 HD. The truck I traded was a 2500 GMC HD. I know that to get the max weight on a tire it needs to be aired to the max cold tire pressure. On my 2500 GMC the tire placard showed 65 psi front and 80 psi rear. That is the way I kept the tires aired all the time. The 3500 Dually pressure placard shows 70 psi front and 65 psi for the four tires in the rear. My owners manual doesn't say anything about increasing the rear tire pressure when towing a large load. My question is should I just leave the rears at 65 psi? (All tires are load range E)......................I may have just found my own answer. I went out and looked at the max load for each rear tire in the dually configuration. If I increased the pressure to 80 psi, I could load the tires to more than the rear GAWR by 1965 pounds. So, I'm thinking that I should leave the rear pressures at 65 psi.

IMHO the placard on the drivers door is for optimal ride comfort. I air all my tires to the maximum as listed on the side walls for towing, which is 80PSI.

I run 50-60 max in the rear and 65-70 max front.Loading the tires to 80 is way overkill and just beats you and the trailer up going down the road.

LOLYour right OP. No reason for it as you'll never need 80 with a DRW. 65 here when towing.

I air to the pressures on the sticker, 70F 65R, and have no towing issues. If you you have too much pressure, you run the risk of abnormal tire wear. On my previous 2500, I ran 80 psi and had abnormal tire wear in the center of the tread. If I'm not mistaken, 65 psi is all you need for the 5000 lb payload.

We are on the same page. Either we are both right or our brains are water logged from all the NW WA rain!

Being as I have been here since day one, as were my parents. My brain is not tooooooo water logged............yet! But I do have gills to deal with said supposed great amounts of rain we have here. Better not tell those folks in Miami or Honolulu that they get 20 some odd inches of rain more than we do in Seattle.

I do run my dump truck at max all the time, but it is either empty, or fully loaded and then some!

80 hurts running empty in my rig. Now try 120 in the IHC with 6K on a 16K suspension!

The placard on my Dodge has both. rears are 65PSI for towing and 40PSI for non-towing. Never saw that before but I have never owned a dually before either.

80 lb on my dually is over 10K lbs of capacity. Even those with the heaviest rv trailer probably only need 60-65 lbs, which on my truck is 8500 lbs of capacity. I run 45-50 generally speaking when empty, with a big load, then I up the psi. Fronts I do run 80 all the time, gives me the best wear up there. Rears so far the last set of tires have gone 70 something thousand. so must be doing something right!

If you give the maximum load and pressure printed on the sidewalls of your tires , and from the cars the GAWR's ( Gross Axle Weight Ratings), I can fill them in my motorhomeRV tirepressure-calculator spreadsheet.
Will give a picture included of it, in my answer then.

But pressure advice is all about load on the seperate tires.
And for the 2500 the GAWR back is devided over 2 tires yust as front so needs higher pressure at back then front, because back-axle GAWR is more.
For the 3500 the more GAWR is devided over 4 tires wich needs lower pressure , even when using the DUAL maximum load.
That is the reason why the 3500 can do with lower pressure at back.

With over 4,500# pin weight my rear axle weighs 8,780# 60 psi in the rear is more than enough. Empty 45psi. 80 in the front at all times.

80 psi in the rear is way overkill! Also a very harsh ride.

I run 80 in all 6 on my dually, I guess 55-65k on a set of tires is good enough for me. I have run tires on narrow rims and had center wear issues, but if the rims are wide enough the impact is minimal.

most tire manufactures give (on their website for the model tire) proper PSI...if you know the weight on them.
