I am running a Chevy diesel 3500 with a Northstar Laredo on the back. I do a little off-roading, but nothing radical. Mostly 4wd is for sand, mud and snow. I do drive some dirt roads with sharp rocks,I do drive some dirt roads with sharp rocks, like out to the Racetrack in Death Valley (I typically air down and go slow). I am looking for E rated tires that have some off-road ability, but are reasonably quiet and efficient on the highway. I know the two are often mutually exclusive but I thought I would ask.
Any recommendations or thoughts?
The "sharp" rocks are the problem, I don't know of any E rated tires that have good sidewalls that will not cut with a sharp rock, with our heavy campers on, the E rated tires bulge out on the side walls, the sidewall effectively becomes the tread, the rocks tear out the side wall of your tire, its just a matter of luck/time...
Don't know as I've ever seen sidewall bulge on a Toyo M55 inflated to its max. I'm willing to bet if I were to mount a set on my Jeep I wouldn't have to put any air in them. Stiffest sidewalls I've ever experienced on a tire.
