Well, I am sitting here getting my to-do list together for once the weather breaks. I want to replace the brake pads, re-pack my Timken bearings, and lube all my caliper slides. I have everything I need except for the pads.... The ones I was gonna get are the NAPPA Permium UP-7136-M.. But right on the box, is stamped Made in Mexico.. Not that I am saying that there is anything wrong with that, I just prefer to get something made in America, if better, or possible..Jessie at Kodiak has told me their brake pads were reconfigured about 3 years ago, and are much better..I also have read that Ceramic pads run cooler than semi metallic, with less dust???? I hate getting too much info while sitting here looking out the window, web surfing, as my Fiver shivers in the 5 degree weather . . .*** edited to replace shoe with pad, sine I went to Sunday School.....

Not to be too nit-picky, but disc brake parts are called brake pads, not shoes. The shoes are what are installed with drum brakes. OTOH I wouldn't be too concerned with the quality of the parts from Mexico, however I would balk at brake pads from China. They could be using recycled yak hair.On Edit, added "from Mexico".

I see you have a bit of cabin fever too.....LOL. :BAre you sure the pads need replacing? My fiver is a 2008 and although it doesn't have a ton of mileage on it the pads and rotors look brand new. Actually the pad material is so thick I would think it will take a LONG time to wear them out, especially with how well the exhaust brake on the truck works.

I would check with Kodiak about the ceramic vs semi-metallic question. I have read that in some cases ceramic pads can cause more rotor wear but I have no direct experience. I do like Napa's brake products on vehicles, they have served me well over the years.

Are you sure the pads need replacing? My fiver is a 2008 and although it doesn't have a ton of mileage on it the pads and rotors look brand new. Actually the pad material is so thick I would think it will take a LONG time to wear them out, especially with how well the exhaust brake on the truck works.

I had a pad hanging up last fall due to some lubrication issues, or lack there of... So one set of my pads are worn... I took care of the sticking caliper, now I want to replace the pads

Ceramic would be my choice. Remember, semi-metallic needs to be warm for consistent performance, not so for ceramic. They run cooler and typically don't wear fast. Ceramic generally is easier on rotors than semi metallic. Lubrication and pad fitment check needs done on an annual basis to avoid hanging pads like previously experienced.

I like CRC brake grease for pins and pad ears. It resists water washout better than some other brake greases out there. Please don't use anti seize - it can attack the rubber pin bushing in caliper.

Napa will have a ceramic option available, too. They just seem to push semi-metallic first -even if oem was ceramic based.
If time is not a factor on this project, rockauto.com will have multiple options of premium pads at decent prices.

That Napa p/n is a ceramic pad. Look up brake pads for 83-95 Buick Century.
On rockauto.com a Raybestos EHT215 is $21.99. There are many other options available.
