Titan replacement tank

We usually travel the back roads. Back roads do not have low fuel prices because there are not a lot of fuel stops, sometimes not even one in more than a few of the out of the way towns. Also, gas stations are time wasters. I would much rather stretch my legs at a park or rest area.

There are areas of the country were, especially in the winter its common to see 50 miles between stations and even up to 100. Also, at night a lot of small stations close at 10:00 pm and they may or may not have a card reader after closing. Frankly, not knowing the territory, I would prefer not to stop where there are not a lot of people around, well lit etc.

When I was flying a lot, my aircraft had the biggest tanks available, including aux tanks. More fuel the better.

One thing that surprised me couple of times is going from state of low fuel prices to state with higher fuel prices.
Like driving I-80 WB in Wyoming you have cheap fuel and entering Utah, you don't have gas station for like 50 miles, even there is small city on the route.

Ya but when you are 53 feet long, getting 9mpg and in a new state with towns 50 miles apart, and diesel is not in every town. it's nice to have more fuel capacity. :)

Side note, not too many owners dare to learn the vehicle capabilities and average driver fills up with 1/3 of the tank full.
I am the one who hates to spend time at gas stations unnecessary, so most of the time test new to me vehicles.
Modern diesels don't like to run empty, but I have not had a vehicle who would not make at least 50 miles on reserve, while old VW diesel pickup would make 150 miles with fuel gauge firmly on 0.
Bare in mind that with camper hauling the range shrinks.
Driving often via deserts, I like to carry small can of fuel as mind quieter.
Driving with reserve light is a bit of nerves wearing, while spare can allows you to use full tank capacity without a stroke.

I had the 60 gallon Transfer Flow on my 2011 Ram and LOVED having the fuel to go far far away even loaded up. Now with my 2016 it sucks getting fuel all the time. I'm eyeing the Titan too but can't get to ID for another month or two....

I've been eyeing Titan's Spare Tire Auxiliary Fuel System. Add 30 gallons to my existing, pathetically small 26 gallon tank without messing up the computer or having the fuel tank hang below the frame. I'd mount the spare on the front receiver or just have it in the bed with the camper unloaded. Getting to the spare with the camper loaded is not something I look forward to having to do by the side of the road.

As to why... One time I was driving through Montana and left the Interstate with just under half a tank. The low fuel light had been on for about 5 miles before I got to the next station.

I don't get the need to go that much further either, but I guess people don't get my need to have super aggressive tires on my F450 either. :) I find stopping about every 200 miles is about right for me.

I have a 2012 Ford F250 Diesel and I installed the 50 gallon Titan tank in my truck about 4 months ago. I did put the shield on it. I don't go off road however I just like the thought of a little more protection.:) The tank sits about 3" lower than the stock tank. Easy install took me about 4 hours. My stock tank was a 26 gallon and when hauling my AF 811 @ 12.5 miles to the gallon I was always looking for a fuel station. I had the Ford dealer reset my computer to have the miles to empty work correctly. However it is still off. I can run the distance to empty down to 20 miles and the gauge reading is sitting on E in the red and I still have 10 gallons in the tank. It's a great addition. It's nice to have 500 mile + range.

Thanks for the response. I guess I have not traveled long enough distances often enough to have the need. A have to stretch my legs and butt more often than 800 miles.The savings in money would take me quite a while just to break even. Frequent long trips may pay off.
