Members of my family and I have owned Nissan trucks in the past. We
have always been happy with em. The Titan is being discounted by
dealers right now. In other words, there are some good deals to be
had on new Titans.
I believe Nissan quality is better than Ford or Chrysler and equal to that of Toyota.
Read Motor Trends long term review of the 2017 Titan they had in their test fleet for a year. Not to impressive.
Hmmm..... I just read the review on the 2016, and it read differently. I couldn't find a link for the 2017 long term review. Could you provide a link?
Here's the link for the 2016 long term review.
I would also say that 30,000 miles is hardly a "long term" review or verdict.
Sorry, you have the correct link and it was a 2016. The first paragraph says they developed a love hate relationship. Truck had capability shortcomings and a few unresolved ongoing issues. Guess I read it differently. For Motor Trend 30,000 miles in 1 year is a long term test. - jim1521Explorer

I owned two of them. The first one lasted 9,000 miles, which Nissan bought back, the second one lasted 18,000 miles. Both trucks went through $12,000 in parts. Most of miles were put on driving back and forth to the dealer for repairs. The rear and front differentials are junk. The Rube Goldberg Dana 44 rear axle(modified for Nissan) is a disaster, it is way to small for towing truck.Nissan claims the 3:36 rear diff is equivalent to a 4:10 axle. It is not, it uses the tranny gears to lower the ratio, which causes problems with the tranny, which is why you have to lock out the higher gears when towing or you will over heat the tranny.
10's of thousands rear axle seals have blown out.The tow haul mode is useless and only works in the first 3 gears.
The front axle constantly pull out of the diff or the diff just just explodes.
Body control modules constantly fail. The radiator is junk. The brakes are useless and rotors warp consistently. The windows in the front doors are to large and heavy and constantly break the cheap plastic parts, so the windows fall to the bottom of the doors. The ABS units burn up because of Nissan's poorly designed traction control system, which uses the brakes as an LSD(The Tundra has the same system but it works). Then there are the numerous squeaks and rattles that when fixed, keep coming back.
The Titan is the only truck that broke down in my yard when no one was near it.
Several times I would look outside and see my windows going up and down.
Once at the dealer, the tech went to start the truck and the horn went off, the went up and down and the lights flashed, truck didn't start.
There is a reason why the monthly sales dropped by 80-90% after the first two years, they rarely sell over 1000/ month.
Nearly all the parts are same ones they use in their cars. The diff are the same ones used in the Frontier, way to small for a tow rig.
I could go on and on, but you get the idea.
Go to a Titan forum, the problems are still there. The diesel also has many, many problems. - gregrc75ExplorerI bought a 2012 Titan brand new and drove it until April 2017. 51k miles when I traded it. The only warranty item I brought it back to the dealer for was a squeaky lumbar support after about 40k miles. They replaced it under warranty. I sometimes wish I still had it!

Thanks for the input. I'm not worried at all about the towing capacity but more the reliability. Looking at a 2011 with the gas V8.
My SIL's father has one and that thing just runs and runs. It's lucky to even see a car wash once a year.
A friend had a 2004 Titan (first year, and the one with the front disc brake problems, fixed under warranty), he used it as a company truck and put over 240,000 miles on that truck and loved it. Rovito wrote:

You'll have to do the math to see how much gas you can buy from the couple of MPG gain vs. a more expensive purchase price.
- RovitoExplorerI just noticed that.
