I cant speak for today's Dodges because I have not ridden in let alone driven one. However- there is no question the early generation of Dodge trucks with the 5.9 Cummins were only purchased for one reason- the motor.
In a few years it is conceivable that a powerful argument could be made that Cummins (one component) saved Dodge and Nissan trucks. Then again- Why anyone would buy a Dodge or a Nissan (without a Cummins) will always be a mystery to me.
I have always been the die hard GM guy on the block. One that says if it isn't a GMC/Chevy it is junk. For years, I will say that the quality of Ford and Dodge were, shall we say, lacking. At least from my perspective.
However, my last trip towing my 40' toy hauler changed my thinking.
I previously had a 2011 GMC Duramax Denali HD which I loved and still do. After a scary moment caught driving through a storm front that hit me with a 60 MPH side wind and darn near shoved me off the road, I decided it was time to look at a dually truck versus my single wheel truck for more stability.
To make a long story short, I ended up buying a 2013 Ram 3500 mega cab dually for the simple reason that GM or Ford does not make a short box dually, and I personally do not like the looks of the long box dually trucks.
What I discovered upon driving and now owning the new Ram is that the quality has, by far, surpassed the quality of the GM trucks. I never realized how much cab noise the GM's had until I drove the Ram. So much quieter. This was just one of the many things that changed my perspective about the quality of these new Ram trucks.
I do however miss the duramax/allison combination drivetrain. Cummins is a good engine and I am not disappointed, but it still does not quite compare to the Duramax for pulling power and acceleration. (By the way, my Ram has the Aisin transmission so I do have the higher HP/torque ratings and also have the same 3:73 gear ratio my GMC had).
My point being of this long post, is that sometimes our egos won't let us look at other brands for fear of being ridiculed. Trust me I know, as i have been getting a ration of******for buying a Ram. Bottom line is I only have to please myself and no one else.
