I'm not a sales numbers junkie so maybe they never were great. It must have been the vocal minority on this board then. For a couple years 2 out of every 3 posts was about a Tundra :)

I see a lot of them in my area and think they look like nice trucks. It's really too bad a truck can look so good but have such minimal towing ability (and this is the case with any half-ton).

I had a Nissan Titan in 05 and it was a great truck.... I'm excited to see how the new diesel does.

I love my Tundra. It was indeed a game changer for the Big 3, but it was never really a big seller. Toyota was marketing it pretty good in 2007 and 2008, then when the economy tanked they kinda gave up marketing it. Its numbers are still pretty low but like I said, I LOVE this truck!!!

I hope the Nissan has success and I really hope that they venture into 8000+ GVWR territory and give some options besides the Big 3. The more competitors, the better off we are as consumers. My next truck will likely be a 3/4 ton or heavier... I'd like to have more options than current exist.

The 2004 Nissan XE Titan Crew Cab 4WD w/Off Road package was a turd.

Titan was garbage and a garage queen. Almost hit someone when the brakes went out and the pedal went to the floor! That was just one of the several problems and why it only lasted 1 year and 19,000 miles! NEVER AGAIN!!!

Went to Ford after the 2005 Pathfinder replacement was a pile of******as well.

Nissan, never again.

As for the truck, I am withholding judgment until we see some performance tests and EPA/real world economy numbers. If it outperforms the competition in either acceleration or MPG, they will have a huge winner on their hands.

If I were a betting man, I would say that it will fall short of the EcoBoost in performance and fall short of the EcoDiesel in MPG. If that is the case, it could be a tough sell.

Seeing that C badge on the side is interesting.

Don't think they do EPA on Diesel pickups?

Pretty sure that I read that atleast one model of the Titan is under the GVWR that requires EPA numbers.

Outside NA there is no exception for a heavier GVWR, all vehicles have to comply

The EPA GVWR cutoff for mpg testing is 8500#. That's why most old school 2500 series trucks were 8600# GVWR, and why the old Megacab "1500" was 8510#.

That huge badge on the side is just ugly IMHO. Apparently it was originally designed as a grilled vent into the engine compartment, with the Cummins "C" in the middle, but then the engineers realized that it actually reduced engine cooling. So they plugged it, faking the grill.

For me, when we move up to a 4x4, the Nissan XD's main competition will be Ford's 3.5L EcoB with the HD Payload option. (The RAM EcoD is nice but with its lower payloads and HP, it's in a different class)

And if the NissanXD and F150HD have similar payloads and tow capacities, price and mpg will be the main factors for us.

The Cummins with all that low-rpm HP, exhaust braking and probably better mileage would be great, just not sure how much of a price premium (initial and maint.) I would be willing to pay over our 3.5L EcoB, which has proven very capable, but weaker in the engine braking and probably mileage departments (both of which may be helped out by the new 8-10 speed tranny in a year or two).

Anyway, we're following this one closely.

That's a heck of a lot more realistic testing than the offset ramp gimmick. Looks like Nissan might have a fine truck to offer. Time will tell.
