Torklift Stable Load(s) Failure
First let me say that it only took one call to Torklift to explain my problem and they immediately shipped out 4)new Stable Loads. They absolutely stand behind their product! It did bug me a little bit that I had to pay for them to ship the new ones out and for me to ship the old ones back. But I'll get over it.
Having said that, I feel it is important for others who use this product to at the very least inspect them to ensure that you are not experiencing the same thing.
I first noticed a problem when I viewed my TC from the rear. It "listed" to the starboard. I didn't make the connection that it could be the stable loads until when fueling one day I looked at one of them and noticed it was disintegrated. I then inspected the others and found 3 of the four were disintegrated beyond recognition and the fourth cracked but hanging in there.
I have a 2005 Dodge Dually 3500. An Arctic Fox 865 (no slides) that weighs about 4,000lb loaded. I am under payload and GVWR.
I leave the TC on the truck 95% of the time. I put about 15K to 20K recreational miles on the unit a year. The stable loads were about two years old. I installed them when I purchased my 2014 Arctic Fox.
Torklift said that they have only heard of it happening once or twice before. That could be...but...I run a manufacturing plant and it's pretty unusual for defects to be a "one off". Particularly if things are batch built, as these appear to be.
They were installed properly (they can only go on one way) and they were adequately tightened. I needed a breaker bar to break the old ones loose to remove them.
I put the new ones on today. You can be sure that I will be keeping an eye on them.
If it happens again, I will go without them and just rely on the factory bump stop on the overload springs.
