Have posted before regarding toy haulers and SRW trucks.I have a 2012 f350 diesel with 3404 payload sticker.I have been looking at toy haulers and want to stay within weights.Avoiding over 40 feet and have resigned to stay away from a triple axle as I know I would be getting too heavy IMO but I know many do this route.Looked at a Voltage 3305 at 12500 per sticker. I know gross is 16,000 but that is with a lot more added in than I will carry.I looked at many rigs and told salesman not moving forward unless I can test tow and go to scales............. All 200 feet away in this case.He did. It like idea until I said thanks and starting walking. He said then we could do it but I had to fill some paperwork first.I gave contact info and will go try in a day or two.Listed pin on brochure is 2831 but I realize each model is different and hence my request . Any one tow a similar rig and happy? Anyone make similar request at dealer?He appeared shocked when I stated my question.,,,, funny!!!I weighed at scales on way out to get Rear axel weight. With. Oth my boys and heavy hitch I sit at 8602 will full fuel.Truck gross is 11,500.I know even this toy haulers makes things close.ThanksRob

Truck at 8600 and toy hauler are 12507, other one was 12702 put me around 21500 GCWR.My truck is 23,500.More concerned with axle at 7000 max and tires at 3650 each.I am thinking it gives me 2000 pounds for two Honda dirt bikes for my boys and everything else to stay at 23,500 gvwr.Current is a 30 foot cougar lite and flat deck towed behind with bikes and Honda 3000 genny.Would like to have all inside so I can travel legally across Canada and the states we frequent.Thanks.

Don't be afraid of 3 axles, years ago they started putting 3 axles when they figured out that they were close to max before loading gear, they started doing this in about 06 I would say.

I did find some 3 axel rigs had less pin and discussed this in an earlier post. Those trailers were all 13500 dry and over 40 feet though. Really pushing things but pin was ok.These were on XLR models I was researching.

Not all 3 axle trailer are lighter on the pin. You need real weights.Ken

That is DRY pin weight and means NOTHING. The only day you are going to tow it dry is when you do that test tow and the day you tow it home. After that.....pin weight is going UP

If truck can NOT handle GROSS of trailer than trailer is too big.
A little here, a little there.........next thing you know it does weigh close to gross (or over!)

2831 Dry pin at 12,500 UVW is close to 23% pin weight

You state you have 3404 payload sticker.
Truck weighed 8602 and gross is 11,500. That 3404 just went down to 2898 and that is w/o the boys and hitch. 200 for hitch...now down to 2698

Hummmmmmmmmmmm payload w/o boys is already below trailer DRY pin weight of 2831

Load trailer up 2000 >>> now trailer is at 14,500 and using just a 20% pin weight (VS the dry/UVW pin weight of 23%) pin weight goes up to 2900.

IF truck can NOT handle the GROSS weight of a trailer......trailer is too big

Course that is IF Ratings mean anything to you otherwise.....hook up and tow.

Old biscuit you bring some good info. I am not new to this and know what I pack currently for weights.
I believe this combo would be below axle and tires and GCWR.
The matching of gross trailer and truck is shared by a lot I understand but I could NEVER pack 3500 pounds in any rig. Others probably could.

Toy haulers are known to have heavy pin or hitch weights. That 16K lb GVWR rig will have 3250-3750 lbs pin weight once you add water and gear. It will not matter whether you are carrying the bikes or not.

Although there are ways to safely carry 4000-5000 lb loads on the rear of a F250 (I've done it for thousands of miles), I would suggest you stay with a bumper pull model instead of a fifth wheel since hitch weight will be lighter. Even the bumper pulls may require you to upgrade your current receiver from stock once you see what they weigh.
