Towing TT with aluminum boat in truck bed

I have a 1998 Prowler 29S travel trailer and I am looking at getting a 8ft flat bottom boat to throw in the truck when I go camping. The boat will overhang the back of the truck by about 18" and was wondering if it will affect the turning radius?. I plan on leaving the tailgate up and sliding the bow of the boat against the front of the bed and have the rear of the boat sitting on top of the tailgate

Thanks
  • try it out see what happens. you could throw a 2x4 across the rails and make the boat have a higher angle. get creative man but remember to strap it down cuase i dont swerve in my rig for things that fall off passenger vehicles, especially mattresses. :)
  • The boat is 48" wide so I will have to back the trailer up and check
  • If you put the boat in stern first and have the bow hang out the back it shouldn't be an issue.
I've got a set of bed racks but I'm hauling a 17' canoe.
  • Should be pretty easy to test it to see. PROBABLY will not effect turning radius any but each towing combination is different. Back into a jackknife position and load the boat to test it.
  • Not sure about the turning radius, but if you don't get racks to throw it up top as mentioned above, consider a headache rack to protect your back window. I just bought a pedal boat and this is something I am looking into.
