Towing with a Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ive git a 2012 v6 grand with the penstar engine (same as dodge i believe) I pull a 21ft htt with some work done to it so its probably a drop of 5000 lbs and I just got finished pulling it on the soft sand on Long Island last weekend with no problem. I've also taken it from NY to Virgina on of maiden voyage last year with no issues. Travel usually about 70 on highway with it drags a little but nothing I would be to worried about. My suggestion is go for it what's the worst that could happen? Just upgrade when you're ready.

We did that with our Jayco HTT 23b. It was quite stressful on the Jeep. We had to carry coolant. If we went anywhere that we would have to go up hills, it would smoke. We ended up selling the Jeep for a Ford Excursion.

I'm glad it worked out for you. Though I'm sure there wasn't any doubt that your 1/2 ton suburban would be able to pull it.

You mentioned that your Jeep Grand Cherokee has a 5.2L V8, so it must be between a 1993-1998 model. During that the time the 4.0L V6 was even rated at 5k tow so I'm sure you will be just fine with the 5.2L

I just bought a 2000 Trail Lite Bantam B23s 23' with a slide, 3500 lbs. I am going to pick it up Saturday with my 96 Suburban 2wd. I dont expect it will know its back there as its capacity is much more. Dont think I will tie the Old Jeep to the trailer as it will be sad I am sure. Thanks for the replies.

Thats what I am thinking I am going to run into. I have my eye on one with a 5.2 in it. better vehicle for sure. So until then I will pull it with my old Suburban. Thanks for the reply

I Have a 23ft Coyote and pulled it with a 2002 Grand Cherokee. Pulled ok on flat ground and ran rough up hills. Could not pass. Had V6 with tow package on it.

and we all post with generic answers since we don't have even a clue what year or engine size or equipment of the GC that the OP is talking about, nor any info on the trailer.

the OP posted this a week ago and has yet to provide enough info, for us to give better recommendations and answers.

I towed a Jayco 23B with my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee for two seasons. The Jeep was a V8. Plenty of power, but unless I was staying close to home, I didn't enjoy it. Due to the short wheel base, I had LOTS of white-knuckled experiences while on the highway, and always kept the speed about 55-57 MPH. Expect to get passed by a bunch of semis. If I was driving on two-lane highways, things were ok. I now have two small kids, and I would not feel safe pulling the camper with my family in the Jeep, but that's just me.
