towing with my "old" truck

Hi all. My family wants a travel trailer. For the size we want 18', I am not sure if I can tow it. We have a subaru forester that tows 2000lbs full. My 2002 Nissan Frontier xe v6 I think is rated for 5000 pounds full, but I am having a heck of a time finding info out about that. The truck also has 130000 miles on it, but it runs like a top. We are considering a Starcraft AR-One 18fb.

Thanks,

Greg D.
  • The AR-One has a gross weight of 3750 so you should be ok, assuming your tow vehicle has the 5000 lb. rating. There are a lot of manufactures that are producing lightweight trailers so you have options. If you have kept up with the maintenance on your vehicle, I would not be concerned about the mileage
  • We have a StarCraft Ar-One 17RD, which is probably the same weight as the 18'. We tow with a GMC Envoy, rated for about 5500#. Tows like a dream. Your Frontier should be fine. I would change all the fluids and consider a transmission cooler.
  • Thank you for the suggestions. I signed up for an account at the frontier forum, but I cannot post yet. I will ask them about the ratio on the axle there. I have a body lift with 31 inch tires. I am excited by the prospect of a TT as we have tent camped for 14 years, and I am not getting any younger. :)

I got this off an adv. I guess the higher number might depend on the rear axle ration you have.
    Engine: 143 - 510 horsepower
    Seating: 2-5 passengers
    Payload: 1,003 - 1,400 lbs.
    Drive: Four-Wheel Drive; Rear-Wheel Drive
    Towing Capacity: 3,500 - 5,000 lbs.

    510 HP. Really? Try again,,;)
