Toyota Tundra 2500?

In the August 2013 Trailer Life Magazine I saw an ad from Hellwig Manufacturing for rear springs (5160 alloy-steel springs) designed for a Toyota Tundra 2500. Does Toyota make a 2500? All I've seen online is talk of them possibly making one after entering the full size pick up market. If they make it what options, payload, towing capacity, etc. does it have? I own a 2010 with a 5.7L V8, 4.30 rear, tow package rated at 10,300 lbs. I would consider the springs from Hellwig but I'm not sure they will fit my truck.

    No 2500 I'm aware of and I would be surprised if Toyota entered the 2500 arena.

    no 2500....we also considered the Hellwig springs.....just went 1000 pounds lighter by trading campers....probably unnecessary now. Love our Tundra!
  • "IF" you go outside the north american market, you may very well find what most of us would call3/4 or 1 ton or larger trucks from toyota. They have truck chassis's up to the class 8 and larger available elsewhere. The NA market is its own market due to how DC operates etc.

  • No such thing as a Tundra 2500, nor will there be for quite some time.
    They shelved the diesel option a few years ago. Too bad as I think it would have done well.
  • The 2014 models marked the 7 year makeover that Toyota does and the new Tundra is being released with some cosmetic differences and no change in towing or payload capacities. I was waiting for something different and in the 3/4 ton class, and ready to trade my 2011 but it just didn't happen. I traded for a F250 and didn't look back. Maybe in another 7 years. They appear to be quit comfortable in the 1/2 ton truck market. What I don't understand is that they already have a power train equal to the Ford 6.2L. All they needed was the mechanical upgrade. Oh, and a gas tank larger than 26 gallons.
  • Seems like Toyota would not have to do much to convert the half ton into a 3/4 ton gasser. Dodge has the 5.7 gasser in their 3/4 ton. Obviously the game changer would be for Toyota to put a stout diesel in one.

    Internationally Toyota use diesels and they are very popular...but they are smaller engines vs what we see in domestic 3/4 and 1 ton trucks here. More on par with what Dodge is putting in their 1/2 ton diesel.

    I loved my Tundra and really wish they had a 3/4 ton diesel option...as I believe they would probably be the most reliable. Of course I can't afford new trucks now so even if they came out with one next year it would be about 3 or 4 years until I found a used one I could afford :)
  • No 3/4 or 1 ton Tundra in North American market, though Toyota did unveil a 1 ton concept vehicle (dually with a Hino diesel engine)at an American auto show back around 2008. There were plenty of photos and a story about it on a couple of websites.

  • Don't shoot the messenger but, being they are a very distant 4th in the 1/2 ton market, they would never attempt to enter the much less popular 3/4 ton market. They would never make a profit in that class.
  • Detroit Iron might get their lunch eaten, again if they don't pay attention to
    the non-Half Ton market...yes, understand that the 'half ton' market share is
    in the +90% of pickups or there abouts...

    But, bragging rights or king of the hill has always been in the +8K GVWR classes

    I think the foreign badges have been 'practicing' (they did that while Detroit
    laughed their behinds off) during the 70's, 80's and 90's for 'cars'...it is
    time for the foreign badges to step into the +8K GVWR truck market...

    Tundra owner here and I agree 100%. Toyota knows they will never own the 1/2 ton market, but that market is HUGE, so if they can grab 10% or more, they're happy and it can be profitable. Same holds true for the 3/4 and 1 Ton markets but they are too small to make it profitable to join that bunch. The Big 3 do so well there that there's not much hope of grabbing much of a market share unless they came up with some miraculous game-changer.
