If any of you go up in that area, take the drive over Hwy 4 to Hwy 395 - and camp along the Carson River and beyond it. One beautiful drive, and plenty of NF dry camping pretty much all over that area.
Big Trees State Park is a good one, above Arnold on the west side of Sierras. It was once 'awesome', but is not so well cared for "due to budget cuts" they tell us. But the park itself is worth the trip, the hiking is excellent.
