Big Trees State Park is a good one, above Arnold on the west side of Sierras. It was once 'awesome', but is not so well cared for "due to budget cuts" they tell us. But the park itself is worth the trip, the hiking is excellent.
Carson River area , Hope Valley is great. this time of year the gate on Blue Lakes rd is probably locked so you will need a sno park pass to camp, don't forget the 8' tall red maker poles for not getting clipped by the snow plows
Yes, I was thinking more of other season than winter trips - in fact, Hwy 4 closes beyond Bear Valley after the snow hits ... they don't plow beyond the ski resort as far as I know ... unless that changed since we lived in that area. It's one awesome drive tho when it's open.
yeah but 88 is open year round to access the eastern slope area
