Trade 'em both on a new long bed crew cab 3500 SRW?

I currently own two trucks, a 2003 Chevy 1500 with 205,000 miles, and the 2002 Chevy 3500 in my sig with 39,000 miles. The 1500 is getting long in the tooth.

I bought the 3500 for my "play" truck because I was driving 50 miles a day, so keeping the 1500 for a DD made sense.

Now my driving is about 18 miles a day, so having an HD pickup as a daily driver is more palatable.

I gotta have a truck for my DD. Can't stand cars.

Consolidating to one truck is good on many levels, except that it has to have a long bed AND crew or extended cab. Long bed for the camper, crew cab for the kids.

I'd be driving the pickup truck equivalent of a container ship for the next 10 years... Not sure if that will work.

Putting 10-ply tires on half ton trucks since aught-four.

Just gave my daily driver, 1988 K5 Blazer to my grandson. After 26 years I figured I deserved a new Daily driver. Bought an AMERICAN MADE 2014 Silverado LT 1500 4X4 extra cab.
Leave the 2001 2500HD Silverado LS extended cab 4X4 , 8.1/Allison locked in the shed.
Two happy people, grandson and grandpa!

I vote to keep the 3500 DRW, it has to be a great truck!

If you have 10 more years of daily commuting, I'd sell the old 1500, and update with something similar, low mileage, or new.

I have had a long bed crew cab SRW as my DD for the last ten years. Retired now but drove it 30 miles each way while still working.
Even with the SRW it can still be a challenge in some parking lots and drive thrus. Not nearly as bad as a DRW, but you will still scrub or maybe jump a curb in some curbed curved drive thrus. But you quickly get used to it. Sometimes you can avoid it, sometimes you can't.

There are many advantages to keep a 3rd vehicle around. With as good condition as your old HD, I'd say keep it and get a new half ton for a DD. GM 5.3L, Ram diesel, etc.

Get the new truck and improve your health!

With the long bed and crew cab, you get used to parking WAY out, giving you lots of exercise.

Fast food drive throughs are more interesting when you can't quite make the turn, so you eat healthier.

Driving around in a massive 1 ton will leave you with a smile on your face so you'll be less stressed out.

It's a win-win-win situation.

If you do decide to make the change, you've got one heckuva chip to work with in that 2002 8.1L/Allison/DRW with only 39k miles.

I could see it selling hours after you list it, and for a nice amount. It's not as we can roll into a dealer lot and drive out in a new big-block gas dually these days.

A buddy has a GM DRW 8.1L and he turns down offers to buy it on the spot regularly.
