But than, you can't expect average citizen to understand that truck ratings is corruption-driven.
Most of people are raise to trust the officials, so they look at door sticker and that is when it falls flat.

If the F350/F450 charts don’t clearly illustrate that pickup truck GVWRs are artificial numbers, I don’t know what does.

I know my F450 is way more than a F350 SRW with two more wheels. It’s also probably overkill for the same TC that I carried on a SRW. What can I say though other than we like it! :D

I order my 2017 dually specifically with 3.55 as that was the lowest number they would build.
Even I was considering some gear shifting on long grades, since I bought the truck I moved from California to Las Vegas and used the truck to haul 7000 lb wide body cargo trailer.
The 440 HP engine with this differential pulled all those 12-15 miles long grade on overdrive.
So my impression is that 4:30 is having in mind those double decker trailers that can haul 5 cars at the time.

The Trucks with GVWR over 14K are cab and chassis class 4 and 5 trucks.

Just to provide a little background regarding the F450 pickups, the 2008-2010 models had a GVWR of 14500, which made it (just barely) a class 4.

This is just my opinion, but I think there was some concern on the part of the Ford medium duty truck brand that the F450 pickup was “stealing” sales from the medium duty line. Consequently, the 2011-2013 or 2014 F450 pickups were dumbed down, rebadged F350’s. Then in about 2015 Ford went back to very much the same chassis as the ‘08-‘10 trucks, but the GVWR was lowered to 14k, and there it has stayed.

Prior to my current 2016 I owned a 2010 F450 pickup, and I’m telling you there is no reason the 2015-16 F450’s couldn’t have also had a GVWR of at least 14,500.

Same link as before. Click on the payload selector and scroll down. In any case, my point is the F450 payload in pickup form is artificial. The F450 weighs more. That restriction doesn’t exist on the chassis charts. Simply put, the F450 components are stronger. On paper, some might think the F350 is as capable. It’s not.
