A painters plank is the safest. No chance of damaging a non walkable roof.
With any contact overlay, you have no idea how much it can support without failure. Why take the chance. Seems pretty cut and dried to me. Maunfacturer says roof is non walkable. What they mean whether you spread the weight out or not, it's still weight in the excess of what the roof was built to carry.
I know my unit specifically states what the maximum allowable weight is in my owners manual and getting physically on the roof, exceeds that weight.
Does it ever sit out in the snow?!
Mine? Never. Mine stays inside all winter. Actually the only time mine is outside is when I'm using it... Amazing how that works and preserves the roof and other parts too.
Far as snow load goes, snow load is not as concentrated in a small area as is size 10's walking around up there.
