Under Trailer Spare Tire Bracket

I recently move my spare tire from the rear bumper to under the front of the trailer because it was in the way of the bike rack and travel tray. I used unistrut which I purchased at home depot in the electrical section. I had to keep the unistrut close together as possible so there would be room to get the tire on the rack. I think most trailers have the room under the front to accomplish this.

We tried to order one from BAL, waited over 2 months with no luck. Hubby is now making it from scratch.

BAL makes a holder for a spare under your trailer. You drop it down and pull and the tire is right there. A little pricey but easy to use.

Yeah, I have the real estate for a truck spare carrier too. No LPG lines back there, But do I want to use the space for the tire or a gasoline tank for my new custom generator install...

Nice idea. However, I want to point out one potential problem not mentioned as of yet.

Your cross brace is tight up against the propane pipe. If any movement occurs with that cross brace it could cut into the propane line.

If it cuts through and a spark occurs, it could ruin you day. You might want to install a spacer of some sort between the brace the pipe.

This is a great idea! My TT is like yours, it has tons ground clearance and lots of real estate under the front 1/3 (holding tanks are to the rear). I could easily mount 1 or 2 under there and barely know they were there. I am adding it to my trailer project list!

I have been thinking about mounting one of these under the trailer right behind the axles so I don't have to worry about ground clearance.

I had a cable-type pickup truck spare tire hoist given to me, that may be another option. But I haven't felt the need to re-locate the spare.

Thanks for the post. I have been thinking about getting mine off the rear bumper one way or another.

And it is a great solution no one is implying anything different
Just seein what MIGHT be a problem in a worst case situation .
Thanks for sharing 🙂

It is easy to remove the tire from the bracket. All I have to do is remove the 2 nuts from the threaded rod u bolt that goes through the rim and slide it off to the side and it drops down. I made the u bolt that goes through the tire rim out of 1/4" threaded rod and I bent it to my specifications. Keeping the tire on the rear bumper was not an option. It was taking up valuable real estate. I could not find anyone that made a bracket for my situation. I understand it will be a little inconvenient getting at the tire when I have to. I am very happy with my solution.

smear some water proof grease on those threads. might even put some plastic wrap around them, but looks like a good job. hope you never have to use it.

Keep an eye on those bolts they don't look plated and if they rust will cause plenty of aggravation on the side of the road in the rain-in the dark(when MY flats always happen 😞 )
