Great report Jeff, many thanks for the virtual tour!!…I checked out the pit mine info and it was formerly rich with copper, with some gold and silver…Wishing you well with your camper Sir :)

  • Love that little town. Stayed at the Shady Dell on two occasions. They have a website (theshadydell). If you would like to stay in a vintage trailer, watch outdoor movies and be able to walk to town...its a treat. For those with a morbid interest in graveyards...there is one right next door.
  • 3 Tons, thank you kindly, glad you enjoyed it.

Dr J the Canuck. I tried to stay at the RV Park where the underground mine tour was located but the place was all full up. May have been a blessing in disguise because the pit mine was right there on the other side of the fence and wind was howling through the whole park like a beast. The pit may have worked like what sailors call an acceleration zone. There is a lot of stuff in New Mexico and Arizona I plan to return to with Kelli and do it right. The BLM campground at the Valley of Fires is one of them.

Personally, I don’t see it as morbid at all :) …Here in the west, I look forward to visiting a few Pioneer cemeteries as I see it as a token way of showing respect to our ancestors (of a much harder time…) who struggled and passed..JMO

I agree. Reading the tombstones at the old Vinginia City cemetery was very interesting.

  • I visited there by motorcycle in the Fall of 2017. We camped farther north in Benson and drove the canyon down that way.
  • The history and side streets of Bisbee are fascinating. Town center has turned a bit strange, but always worth the see. If I recall correctly, the town has burned to the ground 3 times??

In agreement with more to see in New Mexico for sure.

    Thanks for the TR!!
