viking 17 BH mini review
Some of you may recall that last year at this time, I traded in my trusty 13 ft Road Runner for a bigger trailer. We purchased a 17 ft viking bunk house, which has a bed, two small bunks and a dinette. Gotta have room for the grandbabies these days. As I'm getting ready for our second season, I thought I'd post a little review.
THE GOOD:
#The trailer tows great. It is around 3200 gvw, and towing it with our chevy traverse works great. Factory installed tow package. We use a sway bar.
#Nothing broke! Small blessings.
#It fits 5 easily. Two on the bed, two on the bunks, one adult on the dinette. The bunks fit an average size adult comfortably.
#It has plenty of storage. I was concerned, but our clothes fit in the overhead cubbies, and our dishes and food all have a permanent home.
#The bigger bathroom is great with little ones. I put a little sudsy water in the tub and hose them down with the spray nozzle. Fun and effective!
# we towed it from St. Paul MN to Custer state park, SD. lots of room for grandkids, kids, grandma n grandpa.
THE BAD
# it is narrow. We are used to a wider trailer and we have to suck it in to get past each other in the aisle.
#The bunks are hot and stuffy. A little rotating fan near the sink really helps.
#The front door only opens half way. It is a design flaw for sure. The awning rails block a fully extended door. It's a bit annoying, but not much more than that.
#The bunks are right in front of the blowing furnace. The bunkers are dying of heat, while the bed sleepers are cold. We are considering mods to help with this. Thankfully, even in MN we don't use the furnace that much.
THE BARE TRUTH
I really miss my little Road Runnner. But, this camper is much more functional for bigger family outings.
Have a great season!
