Viking Fibreglass Cylinders

I had a pair of Lite fibreglass cylinders that we loved but were eventually deemed to be garbage. Just wondering if anybody has had experience with the Viking Vapor.

I am not interested in a debate about the pros and cons; just wondering anyone has owned them and has an opinion on them.

Is this a weight issue ?
Is it worth the expense to save a 9 lbs. pound difference of an empty tank ?
When I change tanks I don't think I would really notice much difference that 9 lbs. would make when I lift them on occasion.

Isn't the weight in the propane ?

I think the Ragasco are the Viking and Trident - same bottle different branding. The are fiberwound, not molded two piece and glued together like the Lite, and not recalled.

Thanks very much for the recommendation. If I remember correctly, the Lite Cylinders were two piece and that was their undoing.

I own them and I love them. Very light and well made. Hexagon Ragasco (the Norway based parent company) products were never part of the DOT recall on composite cylinders. The cylinders weigh substantially less than even aluminum cylinders (a 17lb Viking cylinder weighs 10 lbs; a 20lb Manchester Tank aluminum cylinder weighs 17 lbs). I'd recommend them any day...

Yes, you are right, but I don't trust manufacturer or distributor sites. I confirmed what you said on the PHMSA (Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration, US Department of Transportation) site.

No. Only composite cylinders made by Lite Cylinder Company were recalled. Our products were not included. You can learn more about the recall here.

Look at Trident composite tank LP GAS 17 LB, these are the lightest weight "TANK" @less than 10# empty as compared to over 26 for a steel one. They cost more over $140.

Viking did have a recall, but not Trident.

get an aluminum bottle they will be lighter.

I checked to find out about them. They apparently do not make a unit that is horizontal. I would kind of like to find something that was lighter to lift up into my truck campers compartment, as it is quite heavy to lift my 20-and 30 LB cylidars to my eye level.
