If you are doing it right, you NEVER need to pull those spring tabs. Rotate the bar until the pin is forced out and then lower the bar.

Any local dealer with a parts store should have these as well as a hitch shop. We lost a pin once and got a pack of two at a local dealer. Good to have a spare in case you ever lose one while out on a trip.

You might consider grease on the hitch bars also. In the pic they look dry. I believe it will extend the life of hitch components and keep things quiet.

redwake, there is your mistake. When you get your new parts in, the next time you unhook swing the bar under the bumper and lift slightly on the chain end of the bar. The bar will fall out with no need to pull the retainer clip.

shows me a good explosion of what all makes those things work... I’m thinking I just need to take them off and bend them i don’t see any springs it just seems to be the clip itself that provides the force to push them back in. which isn’t much because the things are about a quarter of the thickness of a paper clip.

i probably wore them out because i wear thick gloves to keep the grime off my hands when i hitch up and didn't realize how hard i was pulling them back.
