what batteries??

The batteries were stolen from our TT. We had two basic 6V deep cycle on there. Any recommendations for what type/manufacturer I should be replacing these with. We do very little dry camping, in fact none planned for this year.

The trailer dealer in town recommends Interstate.
Thanks!!
  • In our Boat or RV I've used the Big box stores to purchase Batteries. Sears/Sams/Costo or Wallmart. In the past when a battery issue came up a replacement was always easy to find.
  • If you do little to no dry camping the question is why would you have dual 6 volt batteries in the first place when a single G24 12 vdc battery would serve your purposes just fine? For basic needs like this even a Costco branded G24 would be fine.

I thought 2X 6 volt is better than 1X 12 volt. We had 2X 6V on the tent trailer, but now we've got the travel trailer. I'm still new to what is good/better/best.

Since you do little to no dry camping it's not a matter of "good/better/best" but rather a matter of what will serve your needs at the least cost, which in this case would be pretty well any brand of deep cycle or even dual purpose Group 24 battery. Dual 6 volt deep cycle batteries would cost you significantly more and are certainly worth it for those who dry camp all the time, perhaps have a significant solar setup to recharge them, but are a waste of $$$ for someone like you who's 12 vdc needs are so limited.

  • If you're not dry camping a G24 12V should be fine. For the incrimental increase in cost you can also put in a G27 or G29.
  • If there's an Interstate warehouse within reasonable distance, go by there and ask them about their "blems". These are batteries that have a cosmetic blemish that they can't sell at full cost. They'll still carry the same warranty.

If not, then go to Costco.

Costco has a high core fee on batteries. My opinion is they're using it as a profit maker from people like you that might not have an old battery to turn in - especially if you buy two batteries. Check around to see if anyone has an old battery that they'd like to get rid of and take it with you. Interstate will charge you for not having a core also, but I remember them being cheaper than Costco.

  • when I boondocked a lot I used two 6v's but now that I'm older I just use one 12v since most of our "camping" is hooked up to full service.
