What happens if a state park has snow?

We stopped on the way to Western WA from Montana at Potholes State Park. I booked the reservation at the Washington State Park website a couple of days before arriving. Turns out, they plow the reserved spaces. Kudos to them! Here’s a pic of the spot. During summer, there wouild have been more RVs in the picture.

When we travel during the winter months in the west and northwest we often stay at Sno-Parks (Park 'N Ski in ID). Plowed except for extreme snow events. Most ski areas will allow TC to stay free (even when they charge other types of RVs. Just call and ask them.

An annual $25 permit is required and reciprocally recognized by OR, ID and CA (Oregon & Idaho - Nov through Apr; California - Nov through May). Washington has their own Sno-park permit Nov through April.

Nordic sno-parks are usually more quiet than the snow mobile ones early in the morning. There are Park'N Ski located off of 4th of July Pass in ID when traveling on I-90. Anthony Lakes Ski Area outside of Baker OR has a Sno-Park lot at the resort.

You can even stay at the Sno Parks in the summer for free in Idaho.

That sure looks different from summer.
Those tall trees would be leaf full and the surface green with grass. Thanks for the winter picture.
  • Here in Michigan all state campgrounds are open all year unless posted on the state website.
  • For those using the Columbia Gorge RV parks (includes Boardman), are reservations strongly advised in mid April, or are there generally a few open spaces? From the Willamette Valley, I plan a bird watching run up the gorge, south to Baker City, then swing back home via John Day and Bend. I'd rather not have to lock down nightly stays, unless I have to.

    Thanks,

  • We camped there one fall. Wasn't crowded at all. Had a great time walking the grounds and watching bird life along the irrigation canals, also the potholes. I got out my golf clubs and practiced my irons in the big field.

  • Our first night in the new camper. Boardman Marina and RV park, Boardman OR. Late arrival and lucky to find this plowed spot to overnight in.

Nice that they took care of you.
  • We've camped there too and you're right, in summer and fall, all the spots are filled.
