When to trade

How many years should you keep a trailer before trading up. We travel on the roads when ever we go camping, not a stationary unit. Usually couple of 400 mile trips each way twice a year, about 6 trips a years around 100 miles each way, and one long trip 2500 to 3,000 miles. Wife still works so we spend only about 30 to 40 days a year in the camper at this time.

I traded my Arctic Fox in about 2 months! Could not deal with the no slide! Went with a Lance, which is lighter weight, better materials, fit and finish are flawless and the DW loves it! Happy wife happy life!

๐Ÿ™‚ Hi, we thought long and hard before we picked the trailer that we wanted. We have had our trailer for over ten years. Our plan was to buy the one and only trailer and never trade up, down, or sideways. When we are done with this trailer it won't be worth anything and we are not concerned with trade in value. It will only be replaced if it ever gets totaled. I replaced my tow vehicle (after ten years) because of wants, not needs.

Down here in Florida, the sun cooks them in about 7 years. Ours is 8 years old and I've replaced all the plastic parts. It's starting to delaminate too. Fiberglass looks nice when its new. Fixing to trade it for a new old school Jayflight 27RLS wood framed aluminum sided TT. They seem to last much longer.

I haven't kept a trailer over three years in the last fifteen years. I like having a warranty and the reliability of newer equipment. I am a full-timer, so my wants and needs are different from most. When the mood strikes, I want to be off to far away places rather than worrying or repairing.

If it's still in good condition, is the floorplan you need or like, I see no reason to get rid of it. I've upgraded several times from either damage to the trailer, poor workmanship or to a different type of RV.

While I love the 26BH, I miss not having a Pop Up (but my wife HATES Pop Ups).

Between one and two years, they aren't designed to last any longer than that.

DutchmanSport pretty much covered it. If you still love your trailer, it still fits your needs, it's in good repair and especially if it's paid for, lol. We had our ROO for 7 years and it looked like the day we brought it home. I don't think there is any real set-in-stone number.

I just sold my 17 year old Nash a couple weeks ago. It was great for my wife and I. It worked for my wife, my daughter and I. Its just too small for my wife, my daughter, my son and I. That is the only reason we sold it, because we needed more sleeping space and my wife wanted a slide so we had more indoor space for the kiddo's on wet days or really hot days.

I think the best answer is... when your needs change or your budget and desires allow.

The old rule of thumb was to trade it in when the ashtray got full, not sure if that still applies....

We trade when we have saved up enough to pay CASH for the new one.
