Where to buy Carefree of Colorado awnings?

Have been thinking about a slideout awning and I think I like the Carefree Ascent model because it *appears* to have a different mounting method that might work better with our particular slide.

Carefree does not appear to have a phone number and I emailed them and never heard back. Not impressed so far...

Can these things be purchased online somewhere or can you only buy from an RV dealer or a few select vendors/dealers? Don't like the thought of having to buy from a dealer and to have to have them install it as well because the cost will go way up.

Dometic and the other Carefree slide awnings all seem to use the same sort of bracket as in the photo below. I just can't tell for sure from the Carefree website if the Ascent model doesn't use this style bracket or if the cover is hiding it. If I have it right, the Ascent attaches entirely to the horizontal slide flange only?

  • www.pplmotorhomes.com go to parts department- they carry just about any RV product and provide great service.
  • no carefree and dometic are two diff toppers. If you oder carefree their carefree 2 is discountinued due to bad parts.Do yourself a huge faver and get the dometic and get the new quick bracket.
And carefree does not sell to indavisuals
  • just south of you in Marysville, WA, is RV marine supply. Louise can get most to her store in one day. There is not shipping charge to her store from supplier.
    Telephone 360 659-7758
  • I finally got an email reply along with a phone number and can now phone them.

Thanks for the suggestion of the place in Marysville and I will try them if I don't have much luck otherwise. Definitely not going to buy from anyone in Canada as the cost would probably double...

The concern I have is that on another RV forum, an owner of our identical unit was told by the KZ factory that a slide awning will not fit. It may be due to the fridge in our slide, but I don't know. There appears to be plenty of clearance. Maybe the exhaust air out of the upper fridge vent would be too close to the awning and heat could affect the awning material or disrupt the exhaust air flow? Maybe if it has a metal cover over the fabric it would be okay? The photo below is not our TT but an identical model (best I could come up with unless I go outside in the near freezing temps today to take a pic). The flange around the slide is 4 1/2" wide all around and the fridge vent touches the flange.

The Carefree Ascent model doesn't appear to be available from RV parts vendors from the searching I've done so far, but other Carefree models are available.

I have no problem rebuilding a car engine, building a house or doing complicated mods to our TT and I'd be bummed if I can't buy the awning I want and install it myself.

  • I had the same trailer as pictured. 2011 KZ Spree 261 RKS. Dealer installed a Dpmetic topper on it. They mounted the brackets higher on the slideout flange......
