where to put fold up door handle on Wolf Creek

2015 wolf creek 840. I bought one of those fold up door handles that looks like this.

Its hard to see in any of the views but the bolt holes in this thing are offset to the RS of center, to get them closer to the door jam if it was mounted on the LS door jam, but it would be kind of useless to mount it on the LS on my wolf creek because it would be behind the door.

Northwood says there is a 1.5" stud on both sides of the door. Looking at the holes in this thing, no way it would hit the studs.

Not sure I like the idea of having nuts on the inside wall. Guess I need to return it? Has anybody else mounted one of these? It don't have to be right next to the door, even over by the ladder would work if there was room to catch a stud near the ladder?

I hate to say it but I got friends that would do that very trick :(

    Thanks for the reminder.

  • The one that was on our Forest River hard side A frame camper folded either way by lifting it up out of the stabilizing clip. Front (right), back (left) or straight out for use. Nifty. It wasn't huge either but did fine job. On our truck camper the ladder is so close to the door, unlike most newer TCs, we just use it.

A Torklift Glow Guide will give you much better protection if you can use one. Those mount easily to the stud area on the side of the door.

wow, they are proud of that thing. take off 1 digit and you see what the thing I bought cost. oh well.

Edit. Just saw a Brophy on line. That might be a solution if I really need a guide rail. $65.00. Need to look at the little giant to see if it would clip onto the side.

  • I installed one last year late so haven't used it much. I drilled pilot holes and used oversize screws and didn't worry about hitting a stud. If it pulls out I will do a better job. So far, so good.
As seniors we would just be using it for support not to practice giant swings or pull ups!
  • They are designed for trailers and fifth wheels with right hung doors. You either need to screw in a base that can grab the wall stud or bolt though your wall and use acorn nuts or some other kind of finish inside.
