Which quad bunk to get?

Hello,

Well we are finally ready to purchase a camper this fall, but which one? We were leaning heavily at the Keystone Passport GT 2920 but keep seeing mixed reviews on overall quality. I have now become interested in the Jayco White Hawk 30DSQB. So am I missing anything? We have 5 kids a Corgi and Dachshund so quad bunks are a must as is a U dinette but other than that we are open to other brands. Any guidance or suggestions?

Kind of off-topic, but how do you guys pull 35+ foot travel trailers? Is it just a comfort thing? You get used to it with time?

We would have loved a lot of these setups, but at 33+ feet usually the idea of that long of a trailer + tow vehicle always makes me worry. Especially out in the west with cross winds / mountain passes. I "settled" on a 29 foot bumper to hitch trailer and it makes me worry sometimes.

Long wheel base 3/4 ton, good hitch, can't tell it is there unless I am pulling a hill as my truck is a gasser, so it gets louder. No sway and good shocks on the TV cured any porposing.

Mine is 35 feet over all but weighs in at just 7480 loaded on the scales.

I have had no problems getting it into just about any site that is long enough. Your trailer being at 29 feet already you probablly wouldn't notice the extra 4 or 5 feet.

We looked at the Keystone, I actually like the outside more than the Sunset Trail 290BH we ended up purchasing. We looked at both back to back and ended up going with the ST as it was only $1200 more and the inside features, fit and finish was much better. We've had zero problem issues since our purchase in January. Good luck!

The Keystone Cougar Xlite 31SQB sleeps 11. It sleeps 7 without folding down the dinette or sofa. There are 3 bunks, and the "Cub Couches" (like flippy chairs, fold out into beds), a 2nd tv and a ton of storage for clothes in the bunk room.

Two main things:
1. The kids have their own room, for sleeping and it's large enough for entertaining themselves on those rainy days due to the wardrobe slide.

2. One of the two entry doors opens into the bathroom and the other into the living area as opposed to one in the main bedroom, like a lot of other TTs.

I had a 2008 Passport quad bunk with the same floor plan as you and we loved it. No problems with it. Kids grew up and we down sized otherwise we'd still have it.

We have a Palomino Solaire 307QBDSK. It came down to either that or the Passport. We chose the Palomino because the fourth bunk can be converted to a small dinette (perfect extra playplace for the kids) and the fact that the bunkroom has an actual door. Granted, the door doesn't do much to block sound but it's still better than nothing, which is what the passport had.

Our premier has the full outside kitchen, slide on the bunkhouse and sleeps 4. Does not have the U table but check it out as many have seating for 5-6 but table space for 2-3. Some quads come with a trundle so you can sleep 5, I just don't remember which ones.

We have a 2014 Coachman 292 and have had 8 sleep in it. If you go without the outside kitchen it has 4 beds in back.

I have a Passport 3220. I have been pretty happy with it. Couple of small issues that were covered under warranty. Tows nice. It is a Keystone product.
This is our third season with it. My biggest issue with it has been a blown tire and the black water flush. One of the fittings under the bathroom sink broke. I haven't fixed it yet.
It has an outside kitchen and outside bathroom door so when the slide is in you can still use the bathroom.

Don't buy a Winnebago One. Cheaply made and no company backing.

A couple of other thoughts for you on the Passport and while you trailer shop.

The Passport lists 30 gallons of fresh water. Based on how quickly we go through our fresh water, I am thinking that includes the 6 in the water heater and the fresh water tank is really only 24 gallons. Since I got tired of lugging 6 gallon jugs of water I picked up a 35 gallon water barrel and a second water pump.

So if your kids are anything like mine you may want to consider your fresh water tank size while looking at trailers.

Also, what do you plan to tow with? Just curious to know how much payload and towing capacity you have available.

We haven't had many problems with our Passport and overall quality has been pretty good in my opinion.

We went with the 2910 four years ago because of the quad bunks, u shaped dinnette and the deep slide. I don't know when they started with the 2920 but it appears they took our model and instead of getting a folding bunk with the bike door you know get the outside kitchen.

After having it four years, the U shaped dinnette isn't as important as we don't all fit around it anyway now. The other thing is that it also only allows the bathroom door to open a few inches with the slide in.

I've been searching for a similar floorplan. A couple of trailers that we've liked are:
- North Trail 32BUDS
- Keystone Larado 303TG
- Coachman Freedom Express 292/29SE

X2 on the bunk room slide out with either a small dinette or fold-out couch - makes the bunk room more of a bedroom where the kids can have their space.

Keystone Outback 301BQ is on the short list for out next TT. I really like the master bedroom space. But you'll need 3/4 ton vehicle for it.
