After doing an oil change?
Do ya dump in the reccomended amount of oil, put the cap on, slam the hood down and takeoff?
Or do you check to make sure it reads right on the dipschtick?

I know, right? Like metering out 11qt 24oz of oil in an engine that basically takes 3 gallons?
Merry Christmas!

I get my oil changed at Jiffy Lube and check it before I leave the store. My truck has an capacity oil pan so I want to make sure they don't just put in the recommended amount.
If I change my own oil I don't check it, I know what it takes. A couple of years ago because of bad weather I had my oil changed and they shorted it two quarts, and charged me for the correct amount of oil. Trust but verify.

Just remembered another time at a (oil change place) in a company truck they forgot to put oil back in. The (tech) asked if the oil gauge worked when he pulled it outside, Duh.

My two bad experience, so that's why I change my own oil since I was in high school, many decades ago.

We've got an old 1992 Honda Accord that's been neglected from day one. We've handed it down from DW through 4 daughters. I think I did the brakes on the car twice changed the battery and exhaust. It still runs and drives great. One day a few years ago one of my daughters came home and said a red light came on when she turned into the yard. I figured "I guess it's time for an oil change." When I pulled the plug I couldn't believe it. There was not more than two cups of oil left in that engine.

If you are changing your own oil...of course you check.

The real question is how many check at every fill up? I'm guessing not many as it's rare to see an open hood at a gas station.

Of course I wonder if modern engines have fewer leaks. I recall when younger lots of stories of people burning up an engine because it lost oil...haven't heard any similar stories in years.

THIS is what I’m talking about!
Well I’m not quite that brave but yeah. I check oil much more often in old stuff though.

Dodge guy is picking up what I’m layin down. On the engines I know it’s drain, filter, fill, done.
Mainly thinking about how many )&($57!: ing oil changes I do a year. Prolly save an hour a year not pulling dip sticks. Lol

Having the same vehicle for years and/or thousands of miles I now know that I can just dump the oil in and I’m fine. However on customer cars I always check before it leaves.

I take our vehicles to the local oil change shop. By the time I factor in the cost of oil, filter and labor and disposal there price isn't bad, and I don't even have to get out of my vehicle. I have them show me the dipstick to verify correct level. They also fill my washer fluid, check my air filter, wash my windows and check the tire pressure what else could you ask for

In as much as own a farming operation with tractors and trucks, checking theoil is a knee jerk reaction prior to starting any engine from a lawnmower to the biggest tractor I own.

Before I start any engine, I'm pulling the dipstick and if I don't have a rag, wiping in on my pants leg, much to my wife's disdain.

With a newer 6.7 RAM adding 12 quarts you WILL be overf full by about 1/3 quart even if draining overnight as I do. So I add 11 qts and 24 oz to be right on full with engine COLD and on LEVEL ground.

So you that get it done where they drop the plug and replace the plug quickly and add 12 qts you WILL BE WAY OVERFULL.

I used to have the sears repair guy change oil in my lawn tractor and Jiffy lube do my truck oil changes. well the lawn mower engine blew up because the tech didn't put oil in the engine like he said he did. I had more oil on the floor then in the engine and jiffy lube almost caused the same problem. lucky of me I was watching when they did the service and I caught them. I don't go to jiffy lube any more and I do all my own oil changes now. and I always double check my own work. you know the saying if you want it done right---
