We're with AT&T. I just routinely call them and DirecTV a couple times a year to see about any $ saving things we might qualify for. The free connection with my Kindle 8.9 was about to end and I was interested in their service for that as well. Long story short, I went from 3 MB to 2GB, added the hot spot on my phone and DH and they knocked $10 off our bill. Just hit the right day to call, but this is a great service to have. Easy, if you have cell service you can connect, simple to use. But.....watch your time...it's adds up. AT&T does send you a msg at 65% of your usage plan to advise you and then a couple more times....then if you go over, UGH!

You forgot to add that you also need to bring the wheelbarrow of cash with you for the truck when compared to the prices on a MiFi or mobile phone set-up as a local hotspot. ;)

I looked into this when I first got my current Ram a couple months ago. If I remember right, its not too bad. $10 a day or $40 for a month of using your truck as a mobile hot spot.

Verizon mifi here with two different Wilson power boosters coupled with high gain antennas like the Yagi and a 13db mobile. Works great most everywhere here in the mountains of Idaho within reason.

My Verizon hot spot has worked almost everywhere except deep in the Rocky Mountains. Others have had good success with smart phones.

My current hot spot plan is 5GB/mo. for $50.00; fine for me and the DW. Probably not enough for the grandkids.

The cellular hot spot really sounds like a great idea. The thing that I have bumped up against so often with WIFI is not knowing the pass code to use.

Just so the OP knows, the Rogue Wave simply amplifies the incoming signal so that existing signals up to 7 miles away can be pulled in. If the source is outside that range then it won't work.

We have Verizon 4G mifi and it works fantastic. Can't be roughing it when you're "camping" and not have access to the internet....

Sluggo - The way wifi works is that it has to be re-broadcast via antenna on the equipment designed to receive and then rebroadcast the signal wirelessly. This means that if you are outside of the range of any broadcast signal there is no equipment that you can add to a TT to pick up wifi signal that is not there.

As others have mentioned, a solution - the only practicable solution - is to access wireless internet via cellular service, since there are cell antennae all over the country, which enable users to have cell service according to the coverage maps provided by Verizon, ATT, etc. Since it is coming over cellular service it is not free - you will need a data plan from one of those providers.

Adding equipment to the trailer therefore means you can add a hotspot device or you can use your smartphone provided it has a data plan and hotspot capabilities - not all smartphones do.

Aside from this, there is satellite internet (for example this one) but I suspect that for RVs this may be cost prohibitive and not be as reliable as cellular.
