I would upgrade tires on your tow vehicle if you have p rated tires. I have not heard much good about Westlake tires but have no personal experience with them.

It's the people who are overly cautious that avoid a lot of problems.

I would question the cargo capacity of the tow vehicle. Most TVs can pull much more than they can carry.

7700 lbs. of TT is going to have about on 900 to 1000 lbs. of tongue weight. That does not leave much for passengers and gears in the TV.

Opinions and experience very so much, tires are alway a hot topic.

Many years ago, Westlake tires had a bad reputation. I own a Grand Design FW, and they now install the Westlake brand on all their new units. When I bought my rig a year ago, I was very worried about the "China bomb" problems since I'd experienced them on previous tires. But I went with the Westlakes anyway and installed a TST TPMS.

I now have over 18,000 miles on the tires, and have not had any problem at all. On the Grand Design user's forum, I've only seen one reported instance of a "blow out", but the owner said it might have been a road hazard. Grand Design has now produced over 10,000 units, and there has been zero reported failure due to a manufacturing defect. That's 40,000+ tires!

I'd go with the Westlakes if it were me. Just put a TPMS on them (or with any brand), monitor the pressures and weight and you should be fine.

Sounds like you want name brand tires. My tire dealer credits me $35 or so ea for new trailer takeoffs and will mount any brand I want.

You can also ask your RV dealer to get you his discount on different tires.

Most mfgs use cheap "China bomb" tires, ordered from the lowest bidder. Blow outs on the trailer will generally not cause any loss of control or otherwise be dangerous. The blown tire can shred and whip around and cause hundreds or thousands of $$ in damage though. Many of us use a TPMS system for that reason. We love our Windjammer BTW.

Here's a thread on this forum where a Westlake tire blew out and did damage. It's 10 pages long, so you might get something out of it. I guess it is more of a thread separation problem.

Sorry it was a blow out on the trailer.

Blow out on the truck or the trailer ?? Makes a big difference.
As other have said a actual blow out on a trailer can even be felt let alone cause a truck and trailer to over turn.

Having said that I've had actual blow outs on my trucks and trailers when I was on the road and even with a front tire blowout the combo was easy to get shut down even with a 22k trailer in tow.

Now if your worried about the Westlake tires on the Windjammer you can always sell them on CL or the local news paper add. Lawn service folks are always looking for tire or a set of tires for their trailers.
Then use that money and buy a better quality tire of your choice.

Yeah I agree. It said they werent even up to speed and weather conditions were perfect. But you and I both know that most dont check and maintain there everyday vehicles, let alone their RV.
