That's a good place to start. You really shouldn't have to build layers. One layer should suffice. However you will need to remove the window to do this right. its not hard, just take your time.

Thank you for your comments. The only reason I think I might have to build layers is because my TT has the aluminum siding and some places are more "indented" than others.

Butyl tape is what you have already on your windows, so expect it to dry our and crack again. I am trying Eternabond for the window in my mh, don't know how well it will hold up, but I am hoping to avoid having to replace the sealant ever again, and Eternabond seems to be the way to go, from what I have read on other forums.

If wondering, I removed all 11 windows from my 2006 RV/TT and unknown from the outside, 3 of them were leaking. One was leaking really bad. Resealed the proper way and never leaked again.

Note: Instead of using silicone on the outer lip edge (to dress it up), simply use masking tape (for better edge look) and apply ProFlexRV adhesive. re: - click here - Use white or clear - your choice. Use thumb to smooth it like - just like applying caulking around the bath tube edge.
