Your pickup truck.......

Is not a safe place to be during a tornado:

  • All I can say is "wow". What devastation. I'd rather deal with the blizzards in the northeast. Prayers.
  • I live in Oklahoma. I read several accounts of people looking up, seeing the tornado, and jumping in their vehicle to outrun it! One even said, between a tornado shelter and a vehicle, they would jump in the vehicle. Yikes! We are supposed to know better down here.
  • Incredible picture, both of the immediate foreground and the surrounding bare earth. It gets one to thinking: I think of my truck as being like a tank, all that steel, but it isn't, really.

What it is, is a very large and tall wind-catcher. It's possible a little, low to the ground sub-compact car could be safer in a tornado. In any event, no vehicle was safe in that particular tornado . . .
  • You needed to be underground to be safe in that location. Read the Mayor of Moore Oklahoma is pushing for new requirements that all rebuilt sub divisions must have an underground safe room built accessible to all residents.
