Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos

Without going into too much painful detail, we had a mishap several week-ends ago. While working with sand bag crews on the Mississippi River, the truck and camper fell into the flood waters as a road collapsed. Because of a number of issues dealing with the wrecker truck, we had to release the camper as the truck was reeled up over the bank. The good news is that the truck is as good as new after a thorough rinsing, inspection of brakes, etc. The bad news is that the camper was thoroughly drowned. A lot of people had far worse trouble than we did, so we consider ourselves lucky. The floods are ongoing as I write.

Our planned trip to Montana in June is called off. heh.

However, I have now convinced my dear Jane that its time to really update the TC. After drying for several days we pulled out the interior. Amazingly the Zolatone paint that I had applied last year is good as new after a cleaning.

Without burdening the TC family overmuch, I'd like to ask some advice other than don't park too near a flood :-).

My DW was overjoyed that I had a plan for the bathroom: a composting toilet developed by Nature's Head http://www.natureshead.net/. Our holding tank was practically unusable and there was no real grey water tank on the 67 Avion. Our plan is to rip out the bathroom and install one of these and converting the blackwater to a greywater tank. Any experience with this?

Finally, the roof. I admit that I have not really done the work I should have. Now, I need to remove the various sealants on the roof and repair it. We are also setting up for a solar installation. Any advice as to this?

Here's hoping I have posted the pictures correctly. And many thanks in advance for your advice.

Still in rebuild limbo sadly.
Replaced all the wood in my 69 C11 two years ago now but I've been dragging ass on getting any sort of replacement rubber on my windows. Door needs a rebuild, all the electric, water, gas and drains plus my tanks then interior spray foam...
I do have most of what I need except the time and money lol!

Rastaman, we're here. Just busted and bruised. Had an accident on my electric bike and took a real header. We're also busy with our businesses.

Another story of the unsinkable 67Avion.

We parked it at our daughters house across town, left a window open, hooked up electric, turned on a fan and covered the camper carefully. Several months ago we opened up the camper. Looking inside I saw that the ceiling was stretched downward. I went up on a ladder and the solar panel was smashed and the top was deeply dented by a large limb.

We went to our local camper repair. "no way" he said. I went to my local genius auto repair shop. One look. "No way" he said. So, of course we drove up to Watervliet and Cayo. Chuck Cayo took one look and he said, "no problem". But actually there was a problem. His difficulty in getting employees with the right skill set and the supply chain have pushed his estimated repair into the Fall.

But, you know what , Rasta? That 55 year old aluminum camper will be as good as new when Chuck finishes it. Better, actually, since we'll upgrade the solar and replace some windows.

Imagine the latest 2022 TC in the 2080s. Heh. They won't ever make therm like the old Avion again. And I think my Avion, in the right hands could live to hit a hundred.

It takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

Off-Grid apparently! Hopefully this is the case.

We’ve done a bit of traveling this summer with our a Avion, camping in New York, Ohio, and Michigan.

It’s hard to tell from photos but if the wings and floor are solid I would say that is a very good buy for anyone interested .

Rasta, hey there! We are going to Georgia around the 23 - 25 of May for business near Atlanta. My new book is being published from 50 year old photos and I'm going to the edit session. I don't know the sched, so I can't be sure. But, if we can make it we will. I'll try to let you know.

D1 good to hear from you. I'm traveling to Georgia in late May, so that's out. We're out of the country in early October, so that's out. I think I've boxed myself in again on Muley Point. What an elusive target! Truth be known, April is the best month of all for the area. Lets cogitate.

I am planning a quick trip to Terlingua late April then on to Yuma for a few days...not taking the Avion...(quick trip)

67avion....how far south in Georgia will you be coming? I should be back by late May. You know I am only a hop skip and a jump from anywhere in Georgia..and you certainly know you have an open invitation as always.

D, what would be your possible date range for Muley Point this month? It’s been such an elusive goal for so long, I might be able to just come myself for a relative quickie... Argo and I could certainly use a southwestern road trip.

67, I’m game for a Muley Point meet-up. It’s proving to be a remarkably elusive destination! Late May could work. For me it depends on the variants. I’ve gotten the jabs but intend to stay close to home until it really appears safe to travel. So count me in ...depending...

Well its been awhile since I stopped by. Glad to see that we still have a minyan on the Avion thread. I also see that Flyte23 us putting a Wave heater on the cabinet door. We've had pretty good luck with ours, though its a bit of hassle with the long gas lines when we put it on the counter.

We are getting back on the road again with a trip planned in late May. We're going to be discreet about it since the last time we planned a meetup with D1Trout and RastaMan they locked down the whole United States.

Alright now. Looks like we're going to make another run at the mythical Muley Point. Right?
